We were watching it out of the windows from our Junior High cafeteria - we were about 75-100 miles away from the Cape. We watched it launch and then fall apart. It was surreal. Very somber for the remainder of school that day.

Ya, they couldnt actually see the shuttle. I think it took a few moments to realize what happened.
