My dad's wound up being his first attempt at chopping a bike. he bought it brand new. crashed it by sliding under a semi trailer when the driver pulled out in front of him. next thing we knew the body work was hanging in the shed with a fresh coat of Krylon. the forks got longer the "sissy bar" on the back got huge. he put on some wild ass pipes, it was interesting. |
2003 CBR 600 RR. I loved that bike from the moment I laid eyes on her.

I didn't know what type of bike it was or even what a Lucky Strike was but I clipped every picture I could find of this race team's bike out and stuck it on my wall when I was 15. I'm sure my parents were thrilled.

Edited to add: I first noticed bikes around 1985 when Honda was advertising the Interceptor and Suzuki was doing the same with the GSX-R, but at that point I just thought they looked cool. I took notice again around 90 or 91 when one of the bike mags put out an article with tuner bikes. If I remember there was a turbo Hurricane, a turbo ZX-11, and a few other bikes. Again if I remember correctly they were running around 190+ top speeds and it really caught my attention. All that stuff was nibbles though. Seeing, and more importantly hearing, a Ducati 851 with an exhaust on it really set the hook. That was almost 20 years ago and I can still recall the "What the fuck is that thing!" feeling. |
