I only have a speedo on the dualie. I set the odo when i roll out of the garage so I can keep track of how many miles I have logged but not for gas guaging. I usually just shake the tank and see how much fuel i have sloshing around.

And I have a low fuel light as well. |

I hate resetting the trip odometer on my scooter. It reset the achieved top speed as well. Hey, when you ride a 50-cc scooter, hitting 52-MPH on the flat is pretty impressive, and hitting 60 on a downhill with the chassis shakin' and the wheels bouncin'...that's bragging rights.

Yes! I do this in the car too and it pisses me off.

I have two trips... occasionally I'll forget... but that's where it's see through Tanks FTW!
just lean over and see... oh... about half full... good to go |

Low fuel light, but I always reset the Trip. |

Is it one of those huge plastic aftermarket bolt ons? |
I just use the low fuel light, 1.5 gallons left gives you plenty of time to find a gas station. I don't care what the exact fuel economy is, that's not why I ride a motorcycle.
