The "race exhaust" is.

From the article:

Quote:

Our test bike was fitted with the race exhaust that exits below the seat as well as under the right rearset.

Speedracer42 11-10-2009 01:53 PM

Hmm. Weird. All the local Desmo's exit through the top of the tail. Thats the first Ive seen like that. Cool

Trip 11-10-2009 01:59 PM

IT's pretty much a moto gp 990cc bike. That's the way they were in GP.

Here's Gibernau's bike back in 06

Tmall 11-10-2009 02:01 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if the front bank of cylinders exited on the bottom, and the rear bank comes out behind the seat.

Makes the most sense for routing exhaust piping, wouldn't ya think?

They all exited from both points, they only made one version of the bike.

No, the bike comes with a tail only exit:

10% of the bikes value is too much when it's a duc, but when its a Buell 15% is ok?

Not really 10% anymore, you can get a new one for around $50k right now.

Well when you put it like that, ok. But 8k vs <1k. Then again, if I've got the scrilla for the Desmo then I've probly got another 8k laying around for the exhaust.

Sweet I'll run right out and get one. :lol

Homeslice 11-10-2009 03:23 PM

That exhaust is sweet, way better than undertails. Undertails are so 2002.

Thanks! I fucking knew that out of 4 of them at my local track I hadn't missed that side exit on every single one.

Damn, $8800 isnt bad for an exaust when a foot rest kit is $5k

Tmall 11-10-2009 06:44 PM

I know we're laughing. But, those prices make sense. When you're buying a very pricey low volume moto gp bike there will be little demand for aftermarket parts since that particular market is so small.

The guys making these exhausts have to make it worth their while. And since sales volume has to be low, the price is fitting.

God dammit! We're supposed to be hating on the Icon-wearing squid about to wreck the Desmo!! Stop talking about topical, informative bike-related shit!!

Absolutely. But to mere mortals that price is astronomical. But again, compared to the price of the bike it's in line.
