Big luggage build

Does anyone know of any pictures of how sjaak lucassen made the luggage for his r1? Been looking like hell and all I can find are crappy pictures.

I have seen some threads about making luggage out of sheet metal if you want to try to make your own. It doesn't look too tough if you can fabricate metal pretty easily. Too bad I am not mechanically inclined like that.

Yeh i searched there too, and all I saw was folks talking about offroading a sport bike.

Long story short. Someone gave me a 4x8 piece of sheet steel today. I kinda drew up the dimensions I would build it, But I'm looking at the design, and trying to figure out if I would want one big bag, or 2 saddle bags and a tail bag. I was thinking of making it a 1 piece bag and having it sit on the subframe where my seat sits, and also clip in by the passenger pegs. I would want something that is a snap to take off without tools, but is fairly stable. My first thought was to build a frame with the angle iron I have laying around, but the more I thought about it, I dont want to go too heavy. I was thinking more along the lines of building the lower 1/2 the box out of angle, then sheeting the rest.

are you looking for that dude's bike? Just look for a pure luggage build. You can just modify the mounting system for your bike.

You may want to check around horizons unlimited some more. They are good about this type of shit too.

I can tell you from experience that you'll probably never need anything that big. Unless you're traveling through some foreign country and living off the land you'll never use that capacity. I traveled 10 days cross country and I could have made due with a couple changes of clothes and a small tool kit. Buy some soft luggage and be done with it. In most places you can find food and a laundry mat... Just MHO...

I'm looking for basically 1/2 of what he has, but I want room to strap a tent, sleeping bag, and small folding chair to the top. I already have soft luggage, I was just thinking about upgrading.

derf I'll give you my Cortech saddle bags if ya want them... got some new bags on the way... they need some patch work... but they'll do for long trips... (I've done 3 with them) but they're like sponges in the wet... so pack your shit in zip lock bags..

Alright then... Kick ass and carry on.

I think the "quick release" or pita release is going to be the challenge. If it were me I wouldn't worry about the containers as much as the support mechanism... I'd prolly look for some old ammo containers actually... That could be badass and much easier...
