|

It isn't that I want a loud bike. I kind of do, but I'd much rather it have a distinct sound different from others.
|
I do.... actually had the stock pipe on my bike for a long LONG time! I had ridden my roomates (at the time) '04 600RR with a Yoshi pipe, which sounded great, but you get on the highway and it was just a constant high pitch droning.... drove me insane and would literally give me a headache after awhile. With all the highway commuting and long trips I did, I definitely couldn't have that. I waited and waited until I found the one that was just right.... the Hindle! I love it... it's louder than stock and has an awesome deep note to it, but you only hear it when you're accelerating, then once to level off and cruise you really don't hear it at all. Love it!!
|
I like them quiet. Neighbors calling the cops is bad. Cops hearing me coming is bad. Sounding like your going 85 at 45 is worse than sounding like 45 at 85. Going for a 6 hour ride and then having to scream over dinner is just no damn good.
|
this is the reason I still have that huge stock can on my SV. I prefer a quieter bike, especially given that the cops are stopping almost everyone with an aftermarket exhaust (right Tommy?).
|
I prefer it quiet, but the Leo Vince's sound sooo good. If I could just cut their volume in half, I'd be a happy man.

but I've never REALLY been nuts about loud exhausts either. |
i hate stock non loud. But I no longer like stupid loud.
|
I have a V4. Making it sound quite is blasphemy.
I don't talk to people that have D&D. |

After close to a decade with the SSR2 on the ZX-11. I'm definitely in the quiet camp. Don't like loud bikes at all.
No plans on changing the stock exhaust on the CBR. |
Paul, can u even hear tt thing running? Stock pipe and a honda?

U must like to hear yourself think.

Slightly louder pipes then OEM are ok but super loud pipes suck.
|
I am fortunate that I can choose either way. My Hayabusa is running the Turbo out through a full Micron System . it is very quiet and doesn't announce itself. My Goldwing is running stock pipes and Whispers along with amazing speed and grace for what it is. My flamed out Victory is my cartoon bike with a loud roaring drag pipe and the B King has the most obnoxious but delightful sounding Two Brothers Slip on's that make the bike that much more fun. If I am going to be on a bike for more than an couple hours at a time I want it on the quiet side. The other thing I have notice is that I can ride even my loud ones quietly if need be.

I like louder than stock but not obnoxious. There's a guy who's always at the bar around the corner from my house. He'll leave at all hours of the night an fire up his damn Harley. That thing is so fucking loud. I wanna throw rocks at him when he goes by the house. You can hear him for miles after he's gone. Dick. |

I actually just quieted mine down. Took the muffler off, installed all new clamps and sealed the joints with silicon. It's almost as loud, but much less noisy.
If Buell starts selling the factory race pipe again I plan on installing one as it's quieter than my Drummer SS. |
I prefer the quiet. I just recently replaced my stock exhaust and Im still not used to all the racket.

I think I'm going to leave my next bike's exhaust stock. On my 10, I have a spare OEM exhaust just sitting in a box in the basement. So, if I want to go back, it's a piece of cake. My current setup (A&R baffles) isn't horribly loud though.

I wish they were like my boat...it has Captains Choice exhaust and I can make it loud or quiet at the flip of a switch. :rockwoot: No I'm not planning to add cut outs to the car or bikes. |
I like the stealth benefit and less-annoying-to-neighbors factor of the OEM muffler, but I plan to switch mine out for an aftermarket with a quiet core this year.
It's a V-twin... it needs a more authoritative voice. |

I have Vance and Hines Big Shot exhaust on the 109-R....not obnoxiously loud...but a pleasing (to me) THUMP.....I love them. "Quiet" V-Twins just don't work....they gotta have some bark.

I'm looking at the Barker's w/quiet core. The price is right, and it's very compact. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2TxIqlENOU |

Now Tom, you see how this is done? Why can't you post YT vids, dont make me go looking for shit when you talk about exhausts. |

Basic brushed aluminum slip-on is $395, powder coated black w/stainless tip adds $35, and QC is +$20. About the same OTD price as FMF. |

I gots a yosh 4-2-1 on the bus, and it has the plug still in it.
Nice sound, better looking than stock, and quieter than most other aftermarket pipes. With the plug out, it is LOUD. I leave the plug in. |

i like a nice tone, my racebike is just a 4-1 open megaphone. sounds good n scary, but i couldnt ride it like that on the street anymore like i used to. gets annoying quick. the gsxr is ok, alil quieter at idle would be cool tho. sounds cool in tunnels :p
loud just for the sake of being loud like some of the vtwin guys, and even some of the 4bangers are what really annoys me. thats just as bad as a civic with coffee can muffler lol |
Nooone in this Thread is EVER, And I mean EVER Allowed to Ride with Dave.
EVER!!! LMAO. |

I like the idea of keeping it stock to preserve the catalytic converter. The down side is that a stock exhaust makes valvetrain noise more noticeable.

Gotta let the V-twin rumble.
I find the sound level of most SS bikes today stock is fine. Some of the sport tour bikes etc could use a bit more volume. My buddies Bandit 1250 you can't even hear running! |

I like the way your pipes look. Mine won't shine up as well. They went to a lower grade steel apparently. I polish them a couple times a summer and they look like brushed steel most times with a slight shine. |
What do you use to polish? I wet sanded with 1000 grit then used Mothers Billet polish. But I've heard the newer headers don't polish as nice.

It doesnt sound THAT appealing at certain RPMS...Thats for ssure |
If all goes according to plan, my next bike is going to be a thumper. I kinda think I'd like it quiet on the trails.

Started with 320, then 400, 600, 1200. I never wet polished or used any sort of compound. In my experience, if 1200 doesn't have it shining like a mirror, it's not going to shine. |

i actually prefer the bikes to be quiet. sportbikes I love the sound of stock exhaust.
the HD i put on Bub's to get more oomph out of the thing but they are much more quiet then the Vance and Hines or other exhausts. not to say they don't make some noise but it's very low on highway and good until I really roll into it then it'll bark. |
Gas what pipes are you running?

I like my stock pipe...mostly cause it doesn't stand out on th GSXr. It is loud at high RPM's but not at slow speeds. I don't want to piss off my neighbors more than I already have. I think they installed a random stopsign in my neighborhood because of me. Ruined a great chicane around the mailbox area. Lol
|
@GM...Right on. They sound good but aren't insane loud.
|
Depends on the bike I guess.
My Hayabusa still has the stock exhaust. I use that bike for touring, and I do not want to hear that drone on the highway for an 800 mile day. My TLR has a full titanium Yoshimura race system, and it sounds just right, albeit louder than I prefer for an around town bike. I don't ride it a *lot* these days, but it definitely gets heard when I do.. People 10 feet behind me don't like feeling the exhaust pulses either. LOL |
V4s MUST have a pipe of some sort.
Twins, depends. Inlines I leave stock. Triples...again, pipe. |
I think quietness is the main reason I still keep that piece of shit BMW. Even with aftermarket exhaust AND baffle out, it barely makes any sound. Nice to fire it up at 5 AM in the morning to go to work and have the neighbor not breaking out the machine gun.

Lots of noise, no real character |
D&D's only redeeming factor is the cool-looking black cans they used to make
|
D&D's suck. You want a nice deep throaty tone? Two Brothers... end of story.

Honestly I think this is one of those items. You get what u pay for. Tt being said. My micron on the 9R sounded real good. Not too loud but loud enough and sounded great. |
I think it more depends on the bike more than anything. Different brands sound different on different bikes.
|
Best pipes I have EVER heard are a pair of Satos on a RC51. DROOL!!!

I hate quiet bikes. If I wanted to hear a sewing machine I would take up sewing. Plus most of my miles come in the form of racing. And being able to hear the exhaust helps me with the feel. Dunno why I just feel more at home. And like to hear whomever is behind me, if someone is getting close enough to make a move.
As for the cops thing. Riding like a tard creates a fair amount of noise even on a stock exhausted bike. So it may be a little easier to be stealthy that way. But the only real solution to that is to ride chill |
It's not a black or white issue. I prefer my bikes louder than stock but I certainly don't want an open pipe. I'm pretty happy with my bike's current Holeshot exhaust. Definitely quieter than my coworker's M4 exhaust. Another coworker has a cored exhaust and it's about as loud as mine (all three of us have 2nd gen SVs).
|
Depends on the bike. My exhaust isn't too loud unless you really get on it (Full exhaust) but I was really just trying to squeeze as much power out as possible since I'll have it for probably another 3-4 years.
My buddy had a RC51 that had twin FMF pipes. Crazy loud but I loved them. If I had a dual sport I'd want to make them quieter for sneaking down some powerlines. |

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-a...65281_8445.jpg The 2-muthers on my VFR is kinda loud, but not in the same league as the RC - though still fairly deep & sweet V4 music. I likey, but I try to stay civil around civilized folk in-town & esp. in neighborhoods. In an inline-4, I prefer a reasonably quiet pipe - they so often just sound buzzy & ridiculous with a very open/loud pipe & not sweet like a V tends to, IMO. Some sound decent - I got lucky with the one that came on my GSXR since it's decent-sounding & not terribly loud (I'd switch it back to stock otherwise). I agree that it's more a matter of how you ride/shift that calls attention to yourself, even with a stock pipe (sportbike, anyway). I do think a super-quiet 'sleeper' like a PC800 would be a hoot though! (rode with a guy a couple weekends ago that hauled-ass on one, and you could hardly tell when it was on - like a damn Accord... :skep: ) |
The RC 51's with aftermarket exhaust do sound killer !!
My R1 has race baffles and no cats and sounds about like this bike...but better in person. My exhaust and cans are ceramic coated and the baffles are wrapped in carbon fiber to cut down on heat...and that definitely helps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRV-3...next=1&index=9 |
I like loud... I just don't like loud without a purpose. Like the guy on the stretched out Busa with the straight megaphone exhaust. Loud for more HP or loud with a nice pitch (no D&D)... The Yoshies on my Tiller sound killer... Loud but not completely obnoxious.

I like the stock sounds on the ER-6N. It's pretty much a car muffler. I'm gonna try and find a muffler with the same I.D. for the inlet and shape/size.
