Horizons Unlimited Meet (Stecoah, NC, 9-12 Sept)

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/mee...SAEast2010.php

anyone interested in going? I'm seriously thinking about it... I have several of the movies from their website and this would be an awesome way to learn, talk, discuss traveling the world on two wheels with people WHO'VE DONE IT!

it's $35 to register... not including the on site camping and food. it's being held at the Iron Horse Motorcycle lodge... it's $15 per tent (1 person) per night. $20 per tent (2 person) two night.

so if you went, stayed every night... it'd be $95 for all 4 nights with registration...

Captain Morgan 06-20-2010 09:56 PM

Hmmm, sounds interesting. Not sure I could pre-register just yet, but will definitely keep it in mind.

Mr Lefty 06-20-2010 10:03 PM

well you don't need to just yet... and if you forget... it's only$10 more... so not bad

derf 06-20-2010 10:23 PM

Looks cool, but I doubt I would be able to go, and if I do it wouldnt be for the whole time. It is a possibility though, I get to my new unit a week from monday and the family moves down in august, so I wont know anything until at least the middle of august

Mr Lefty 06-20-2010 10:26 PM

Yeah... I probably won't make any hard decisions until Aug myself.

Gas Man 06-20-2010 11:18 PM

I would but I'm working that weekend...

Trip 06-20-2010 11:46 PM

$15 a night camping for 1 person. I would rather stay at DGMR for $50 a night. There is too many campgrounds in that area to even think of paying that much.

$50 is for a nice comfy hotel room. It's $12 for two people at DGMR if you want to camp. There are some national park campsites you could probably get for cheaper near there too.

Horizon Unlimited people are Mr. 1upers, I would rather not pay for that type of company.

Ride reports get old to me. I can only look at advrider for like 5 mins before I get bored with it. Half the fun is figuring out shit for yourself.

Ok, well I enjoy hearing about how some guy used his last spare tube on the coast of angola and still managed to ride another 4000km until he could get the tire fixed

That's nice, I don't. I am not interested in going watch some guy's slideshow of his trip. I rather be out riding or pushing Scott into the pool. If we had a slideshow at our rally, I would get Amorok to shoot someone.

Maybe we need a slideshow of him shooting somebody, imagine the possibilities of him double wielding and shit, just popping caps in peoples faces.

not the ones I've met... but i've only met three... so :idk:

I'm sure you've met more having both gone to the BMW rally and living by deals gap...

I'm about 90% sure I'm going... and I'm looking forward to the stories. Yes half the fun is figuring stuff out on your own... but I love stories... trip reports are boring after a while... but a well told story in person is WAY different.

also, I truly plan on riding around the world... and hearing about this that or another helps me plan, lets me know what's reality and what is just internet rumor. Yes by the time I get around to it... the world will have changed dramatically... but many of the basics and fundamentals of attempting the trip remain.

no need to reinvent the wheel, if they have a great idea that's tried and true, why not listen? I'm sure there will be a billion other tough situations that I can and will have to, figure out on my own. :2cents:

I'm gonna see if I can make it, its more like a 50/50 thing for me, and it would prolly be something like leave thursday, ride down, hang out thursday night through sunday morning and be home for a late dinner sunday night, If I even go.

I'm pretty sure that we are going to do very similar trips around the same time, at least within a year or two. Wouldnt it be hilarious to bump into each other in mongolia?

Most of the old farts I have run into are pretty damn boring. I rather listen to a good ole VFW fart any day of the week. Especially when they try to overdue it as this appears to be since they are going into the most terrible way of telling a story or presenting information ever known to man. The dreaded slideshow.

Fucking powerpoint is ruining my life.

Shit... I was gonna say why not plan on meeting somewhere randomly through out the year and ride through a country or two together.

Yeah... I'll give you that... Death By Powerpoint SUCKS!

Trip 06-22-2010 09:03 PM

I will still ride with ya if you come up. If you are lucky I will take the DRZ and we can hit some fun dirt. Been wanting to get some camping experience, so I may be in for that even if I don't go to most of the conference BS stuff.

Depends on if I do the blue ridge the weekend before this though. I was planning doing the BRP labor day weekend.

Mr Lefty 06-22-2010 09:05 PM

I hear ya... what do you have planned for the 4th?

Mr Lefty 06-22-2010 09:26 PM

Ghey... get her to come camping.

hahahhahahahahahahaha, this is what she said when I asked her opinion of the word camping: "do I look like I like camp?"

Mr Lefty 06-22-2010 09:40 PM

 well it was worth a try...

Mr Lefty 07-07-2010 09:20 PM

Just registered for the 26-29th meeting in Sterling Colorado... AND the 9-12 Sept in North Carolina.

they've got different things planned for both, and hell it's an excuse to head west.

I may sign up to camp, but I will probably skip out on paying for the meetings.

derf 07-07-2010 11:31 PM

Trip 07-07-2010 11:33 PM

I did that one day with Gas, but paid for it for the rest of the week...

besides I want to take more time than you could get off... 20 or so days... spend time in some of those area's hiking and what not...

it's all good though

Hey just noticed they added a speaker, a guy that did the Trans Labrador Hwy...

gonna have to jot down some questions for him...

Trip 07-11-2010 12:05 AM

looks like you just got to call ironhorse for camping, I am not going to sign up for that membership and meeting crap.

Mr Lefty 07-11-2010 12:30 AM

Yeah the camping is separate so people who want to stay elsewhere don't have to pay for camping they're not going to use...

and yeah... it's not your cup of tea... but it's interesting to me... and worth $40 IMO... :idk:

Yeah, I have no interest in that part, but I will come up for the camping if you want to hang out when you aren't in that shit. If not, let me know and I'll just stay home. :nee:

Looks like the ride they are going on isn't GS friendly for dirt noobs, I wonder where they are going.

Mr Lefty 07-11-2010 12:50 AM

bring the DRZ... I'm gonna be buying a set of Trail wings and some D606's... I'll haul the D606's to Colorado... then swap... swap back and ride home... same for NC.

I'll have a better idea of how the thing is laid out after Colorado.. I'm not sure if they only do the presentations and seminars at the end of the day or what...

edit: there's a schedule apparently... looks like all the presentations are in the afternoon... you should just fucking pay and come hang out... quit being a bitch

I don't trust my drz that much. Mine may have less miles, but it has taken a beating. I don't want to trailer over either.

I will talk with them prior and see what they are getting into. I am more than fine with the service road stuff if that is all they are doing.
