Sorry but,

I would love to see variable cylinder management on bikes.

101lifts2 07-11-2010 01:44 AM

Won't happen unless you start seeing 6 or 8 cylinder engines.

The fuel needs to be cut anytime the bike is an a decel regardless of engine temperature.

Particle Man 07-11-2010 04:22 PM

Simpler = better in that department IMHO. More stuff = more to break when in the middle of BFE.

gavilan 07-11-2010 06:14 PM

Uhm... what's BFE? :scared:

derf 07-11-2010 06:30 PM

Mire stuff that can break silly

More stuff to break? It's just the ecm turning off the injectors. The pistons are still moving.

Not that simple. It also deactivates the valves on the dead cylinders. If you let the valves keep opening, you're pumping air with those cylinders and creating more power loss.

Smittie61984 07-11-2010 08:44 PM

I'd just be happy to have a motorcycle that is made without California in mind. How about a 1000cc 2stroke sportbike???

How much more could a bike benefit from that? My old 96 CBR600 (non-cali model) gets around 45mpg with hard use in the mountains.

*nod*

A "Jake-Brake" for motorcycles (only not... and yes, I understand it's not the same thing but humor me)

Mr Lefty 07-11-2010 10:12 PM

ya know... I used to wish my DRZ had FI for long trips, not having to fuck with a carb to get power for mountain passes and sea level.

but I know how, or can figure out how to fix a carb.... EFI? fuck no.

but my mindset is for what can/can't be fixed in Siberia... as I hope to one day ride through there...

so I'll go KISS

Is 50+mpg for 4 clinder bikes not enough?

Particle Man 07-12-2010 08:19 AM

dude, that first video was like a reject from The Blair Witch Project

I need to go vomit now from motion sickness.

Phenix_Rider 07-12-2010 03:20 PM

Could be that I'm missing something... but those aren't connected to the intake...

No smokers, but these guys seem to have the right idea at least for enduro bikes:

950cc liquid cooled v-twin... in a 320lb dirtbike IIRC...

Early mockup I think. I wonder if he'll be able to build boost with that? Twins power pulses tend not to work so well for that...thou the kawi is a 180 deg crank

Do it across the northern half. Everyone and their mother goes across the Trans-Siberian Railway region. Not impressive.

Shit, there's a thousand threads of riders going to Prudhoe Bay in Alaska on ADV but that doesn't mean that it still wouldn't be cool as all hell to do it too.

apparently some people only do things to impress others... rather than for the enjoyment they have of actually getting off their ass and doing something that others will only dream of

they can add it to the Honda with auto trans, linked ABS brakes and air bags.

cost you 26 grand to own it but at least you'll get decent fuel economy and not have to shift. kind of the equivalent of riding a moped for big boys. :lol
