Welcome to the 2011 Riding Season

As it's already been stated and you would have been living in a basement to not know in Michigan, the riding season has returned.

In preperation Wed when I got home from work, I burned in the nightster pipes (from this winter's projects), and summerized the garage. This was an evacuation of the wife's car, moving a the lift, prepping the snow blower for summer storage, putting away half the snow shovels (I'm not ready to curse myself by putting them all away yet), setting up the outside hoses (water supply still turned off inside but they are ready)... but in general get ready.

It's so nice to see the garage all open like this... I hate it's winter cramped version.

Then I rode to work... it was so nice out. Got home early enough to work on a few other house projects I have been putting off till warmer weather. Then clean wipe down both bikes, they were pretty dirty from sitting uncovered for 2 months while I worked on them.

Did you get out?

What about today? I rode again, that's two days in a row and a great way to start the season in mid march.

Its supposed to reach 80 degrees here today, congrats on being able to ride again I've been riding here since January. I sure don't miss Michigan

Gas Man 03-18-2011 08:22 AM

Yeah I hear ya... it hit 70* yesterday!! Suppose to hit 55 today...

It's like McD's here..

We're Lovin It.

Did a down the road and back a few times. Still a ton of dirt and salt on the roads from the winter.

smileyman 03-18-2011 09:31 AM

I have a sunday 360 miler planned. It will be my first outiing of the year. Plan on doing 180, then hooking up with some friends for another 180. Gonna start early and run late mang!

We've had a couple of decent days so far this Spring....but....my bike is still in the garage. I usually make my first ride of the season a trip to the Blarney Breakfast on St. Patrick's day....took the bike last year and it was 28F and pitch black when I left he house at 5 am....took the Eclipse GT this year and and was 58F when I left the house.

I regret it.

pauldun170 03-18-2011 10:26 AM

Beautiful day for riding today and I'm stuck in the city.
Miserable weekend for riding coming up...

Guess I'll be doing spring cleaning in the garage.

marko138 03-18-2011 10:34 AM

I might ride today. But probably not.

Get rid of that windshield on the Nightster.

Brandon 03-18-2011 04:04 PM

65 today. stuck @ work.

i wont take mine out till the roads clear off a bit. in a few weeks...

njchopper87 03-18-2011 11:16 PM

I've been riding year round. >.> Only to/from class though. The warmer weather is definitely welcome though.. although I wouldn't mind waiting for the hotter weather that is soon to come.

Probably not. Only let guys I know and I know how they ride, to roll on my bikes. At point, the only person I clear to ride my bikes anytime is my BIL. Then some times cave.

I know I know... but it helps in the 40* or sub 40* mornings. Plus I haven't callused up my riding vagina yet...

got about 60 miles in yesterday, roads actualy werent too bad, very little sand/debris (all that rain def helped) and just the random potholes to watch in addition to brain dead drivers.

Weathers going to get a bit crummy again here. I need to finish the steering bearrings on the futura and swap a rearset, then get the bike inspected. The buell will need fresh oil once I start riding it regualrly, then its time to enjoy the high gas prices.

I've ridden a very small amount so far. It seems that I'm always unavailable on the nice days, but when I have free time, the weather sucks donkey balls.

It's not the bike, it's my pansy ass that isn't a fan of riding when it's below 50.

Got some miles in down in AZ, now it's parked again until the flooding is over.

I did have a strong emotional attachment to that bike, with around 25k miles in 6 months of owning it and all...

More than that though, I was glad my passenger didn't die or get seriously maimed....cause that would've been tough to deal with.

Yea, but it was pretty cool up until the suck.

If I ever have to ride in the rain again it'll be by absolute necessity only. That lil' episode completely changed what I thought I knew about riding in bad weather.

Remember tho, it wasn't the rain. The wall of water we went through was not was got us. In the end, it was the road. To this day, I'm pretty sure the reason I stayed up and you went down was because you had a bailing passenger.

Bailing passenger? You mean because there was more weight over the rear tire?

And besides, who's to say there aren't other patches of road out there waiting to take me out? I'm too tense to ride in the rain safely now anyway. Everytime I see a shiny patch of concrete my arms go taunt...which of course just makes it that much worse. I always thought I could ride in anything, and I always loved riding in thunderstorms...just to be out in the weather and all...it was exciting.

But you know what's not exciting? Dying...

I got in 398 miles last Sunday. Got in 105 this week commuting and gonna try and put on another 300 this weekend between Saturday and Sunday. Looks like rain on Sunday so we'll see...
