Which do you want?
If you had a choice between these bikes, which would you get and why?
|
dude.... what bikes?

never mind...
|
Thats why they call me Oz... just too fast for you mang!
Why do you want to know? Thinking about a next purchase? |
Dual/sport, but none of those big bikes. I would get a used Suzuki DR650.

dual sport/adventure tourer... cause one day I wanna do a major trip... like multicontent trip... :D
|
Bmw f800gs
|
motard FTW:dthumb:
|
|
KTM 690 SMC
http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...ndurosmc-2.jpg becuase, well just look at why the hell not? |
motard or adventurer tourer, easier to go just ride by yourself. Dual sporting and dirt is more a group thing. A smaller adventure tourer can still do some light single track and tourer, a motard is pretty much just has a soul purpose.
|
Motard with 2 sets of wheels.
Hooliganism FTW! |
Tard it.. because out of those bikes, that is what *I* would choose. My other choice would have been adventure/touring but I'm not tall enough for 90% of those bikes.
|
oh i forgot to mention
if it was affordable the SMC but realistically i will probly get a mini motard before i get a bigger one |

Tard FTW :rockwoot: My preference is the WR250X, cause I could hooligan it all over and if I dropped it, wouldn't cost so much to fix back up :D
And it looks bad in black!! http://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/c...9_2d1e45db.jpg |
I'm sure others have mentioned this but motards can be used for trail riding with a set of typically inexpensive rims and tires. heck,KTM used to give two sets of wheels with the 525.
|
motard
|
Dual Sport/adventure tourer...being a more multipurpose, I think it would meet more of my needs than one of the others alone...unlike ebbs tho, I would prefer a multicontinent!
 |

I say motard just because it is so versatile and so fun. It can handle a lot of off road, only time mine gets squirrely is in really deep mud or deep sand, and thats with contisport's. And sooo much fun on tight twisty roads, that someone may have all around them.
Only downfall is they are definitely not sport tourers :) |
dual sport

Motard no question.
You can slap a set of nobbys on there is you want to off road it. |
Motard...for the smile factor.
|
I picked dirt because I miss riding trails, but dual sport would work as well.

My vote would go to a serious motard if there was a good place to use it. The small tank prevents you from going too far from a gas station at any given time, and the infestation of the gap makes having such a narrowly focused bike less desirable. Maybe you could pick up a motard and club race it fairly cheaply in between street use. |
If you have someplace you like to ride off road, a dirtbike. If not probably a KTM Motard/dual sport of some flavor.
|
Dual sport. BMW GS650 or the 800:drool:
http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/us/en/...00gs_2_400.jpg See I would enjoy a Motard but I have discovered literally hundreds of miles of county roads and fire trails here in teh Ozarks that I am dying to see. They lead to some real dramatic and awesome scenery, but a motard wouldn't have the range or carrying capacity I would. I would also commute on the thing as my Ninja hates 30 mph city traffic... Silvers better http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/us/en/...02_preview.jpg |

Great link! Thanks!

Well if you want a Tard, you know where you can by a DRZ cheap enough to afford the motard mods.
|
I said motard, because I love mine. Grab a set of Conti tard-knobbies and they'll do pretty well off road too. That having been said I plan to buy a big dual sport sometime in the next few years because the KTM is too nice to flog in the dirt.

DRZ! I even considered selling my 10 to get one, just because I can't keep 2 bikes around right now.

She got plenty dirty last time I took her to JGP, I had an "issue" with T10. I know a few people who have SuMo's and dirt them, and their bikes always seem a little beat-on. I don't want to beat the snot out of mine. |
I voted Motard, just because.
|
|
Being you might add another bike to your garage I'd go with a true dual sport. A small one at that. Something like a 200 to a DRZ400. I've heard a lot of dualers say the smaller duals are better for trails than the 650s and up. But with the small duals you can go on some very tough forest trails but still pop out on the road for a bit without getting a ticket.
If you only had one bike and good funds I'd get something like a BMW GS800. |
It's rather obvious which was my choice.:pat:
I am thinking about getting a set of 17" rims made up so that I can run street tires just for the hell of it. There's nothing that brings out the stupid like a 100-HP dirt bike. |
One of the Dumbest things I have done in the past 5 years was in 05 I bought a left over 04 VStrom I rode it about everywhere there was a path. (It was by no means in the same class with the KTM of the BMW nor at $6800new was it any where near as pricey) I bout the busa in July and the wife started to vetch about insurance cost, so when a guy came down the drivey and offered $6800 I took the money. It was a great ride anwhere hose it off and head out again bike.
|
Motard. No question.
|
Keep your CBR, buy my DRZ....Done!!!

I am coming work on your bike this weekend and may buy it if we can get it running. |
bmw 1200GS is my freakin' dream bike. I'd have one in the garage but we're putting every penny away for a house.

So you're leaving it dual sport? Interesting.
I'll be getting a DRZ for the street in a couple months. Right now my priorities are elsewhere... |
Yeah new challenge and a way to improve my riding that I don't want to pay for at the track and too stupid to do it on street.
Plus dirt in this area is fuckin fantastic |

Yea I had an '02 DRZ400E,I was getting electric start motherfucker! Of course I modded the piss out of it to make it more "dirt worthy" Here's a couple crappy pics,my good pics went down with my hard drive crash last year....
