What state do you think is the best for motorcycle riding?
Just curious what state would get your vote for having the best roads for motorcycling?
|
My area, period............The Appalaichans might have a few tighter roads, but the road surface is more beat-up compared to out here.
|
Texas.
Hill country. Between that, and the 7 tracks within an easy few hours drive.... Done. |
Ummmmmmm Texas I guess, but not where I'm at unless you like LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG straight highways.

florida is ok if you enjoy a lot of long straightaways and a very small number of actual corners.
I'd say anywhere its warm on average 50+% of the year. |
overall, um anywhere but Illinois. lol We do have a few decent roads but even when there are decent corners and stuff you end up with gravel and crap on the road. The winters up here are murder on the roads! Ive never really ridden any other states except Wisconsin which has some real nice twisties and excellent scenery but again the winters tear up roads around here. My vote is for anywhere warm!!!

Cari, that sign is on Lamar by braker. I turned around and went back to get a pic of it  |
Insanity.
The cagers are out to kill us yet we persist in our enjoyment of the sport. :) |
I have no idea what other states are really like. Most of the good roads are more of a back road where a tourist wouldn't travel, unless with someone who knew where they are going.
Ohio isn't horrible once you get toward the south eastern part of the state. Just the weather sucks. |
I've only ridden in the mountains in Arkansas and in Hill Country in Texas. I'll wait until I get back from the rally before making an opinion. ;)
:D |
texas had some great roads around ft hood. And i didnt get to stay since i was rolling through from leave but tennesee had some amazing roads as well. From the highway anyway. Smoked the piss out of some mulleted dude driving a chevelle in my shelby. Great times
|
My guess would be North Carolina for those wanting tight twists and turns and constant changes in elevation.
But for long sweepers and track like riding I'd have to go with some of those Arizona/Nevada roads that I remember I think Dlit posting a while back. Knee dragging at 115mph is just fucking awesome. |
Be hard to beat where i live, just my opinion, Northwest NC in the mountains, on the TN and VA lines, short drive to Shady valley, TN(489 curves within a 15 mile radius), not far from deals gap, 181 mountain(long fast sweepers), not terribly far to ride to some awesome roads in WV....even the ride to get to these places is awesome, there aren't any straight roads here, hell theres not even many passing zones
|
I'm with Yamer
West NC, East Tenn, SE Kentucky, SW Virginia. NW Georgia I would like to get out to Cali though. |

Any state in the Appalacian Mountains, any state in the Rocky Mountains, after riding in the Denver area in '06 I'd kill to go back again! Basically anywhere there's mountains FTW! I do prefere N GA just because our riding season is so long and winter is so short (normally, this winter sucked balls)!! |

The weather brought me down here to NC. The roads are decent,it's not TOO hot or cold and I had a job waiting for me.

Um, anywhere NOT ND. Utah was nice when I was there.
|
Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas are both pretty nice.

Don't forget "Lookout Mountain"....God's country! Couldn't resist!:sorry: |
Southern California....Not only do we have killer mountains..but its hardly humid and usually between 50-90F year round. I can ride every weekend all year long unless you go above 2000 ft.
I usually don't ride under 55F. lol |

Plus 1. I miss 125. :( |
Anywhere but here.
|
Wish I could say Hawaii.
We have the best riding weather, but way too many cars on Oahu. Traffic-traffic-traffic and no where to go. :idk: |

Granted I haven't been in the NH/CT/Maine area but I'd say So Cal's got it.... love the roads around 74/Ortega Highway leading to lake Elsinore. NM's got some nice fun roads too. Quote:

I do enjoy riding here in the MD/VA/WVA triangle. Great roads. I'll put Skyline Drive up with anything in the Smokies.
Can't argue with the Cali people though. The weather out there is great. |
I think the Hill Country here has it all going on. Hills, twists of every caliber, light car traffic in most places, and you can ride essentially all year. Somedays in July and August it might not be suggested that you ride, but it's still doable.

In my biased opinion, nothing beats the back roads in the White Mountains of New Hampshire for riding..... |
PA has some good roads. But the road surface isn't great in some places. Our winters wreck these roads.
|
Nova Scotia
|
Ive never been to east TN or West NC, but of all the places I've been Cali has the best roads if you go out of the city.
|
I dought any one here has ridden enough to gauge which state is best overall. Everyone is either going to say 'mine' or 'mine sucks!'

California, baby!!!
You can ride the desert to the mountain to the beach in a few hours, not to mention being able to legally share lane. |

"Central coast" - Southern California. Great weather, awesome roads, you can ride from beach to mountains in 10 minutes. Plus, central coast has really mild traffic...highway 33 has VERY few cars and I have never seen a cop up there. :beers:
Of course I have only ever ridden in California so I have nothing to compare it too! :leaving: |
Quote:
Yea but the rst of us don't "need" to be able to share lanes for the most part. I know you don't here in N.C. |

There are lots of great places to ride. However, in my humble opinion, I'll opine on the popular ones I've seen. :D There's alot more that goes into a great riding state than just the road. Taffic plays a huge part of it for me, so bear that in mind. Texas Hill Country. Little traffic every time I've been there. GREAT riding! Calfornia Pacific Coast Highway. Suck. TOO much traffic, too many RVs, too much wind. The road and the views are amazing, but to actually *ride* and enjoy, not so much. I recommend central California over towards Nevada personally if you're stuck on California. Upstate New York through the Adirondacks. MUST SEE riding up there. Believe it or not, I haven't ridden through the Gap in North Carolina, so I must reserve judgement. :D Northern Georgia. Beautiful roads. Beautiful scenery. Not too much traffic to get in the way. The ringer of the bunch. Vermont and New Hampshire. Amazing. :D Hands down, my favorite area I've ever ridden in, has to be Nova Scotia, on the eastern shore in Cape Breton. Amazing. I've never seen anyplace like it in my life. I love it there. |

Ever been across I-80 through IA and NE and seen the little crosses on the side of the road? They're a memorial to people that died of boredom from trying to get across that 700 miles of absolutely nothing. :D |
