There's a bus load of tourists coming in, so I"ll be stuck here all day...

"Thank God it's Friday", my ass.

JC

G-Rex 04-10-2009 08:27 AM

The only thing good about Good Friday for me is that it actually *is* Friday. That's it.

So, to answer your question, yes, I am working today. Dammit.

tommymac 04-10-2009 08:29 AM

At least i am not alone, its def going to be a long day. Been here 90 minutes and I already want to go home.

Dave 04-10-2009 08:33 AM

papapoi 04-10-2009 08:38 AM

Also workin, maybe ill get all my drafting done and get to jet out early.

Tmall 04-10-2009 08:40 AM

The sun is shining. The temp is nice. Probably the best riding day this year.

And I'm babysitting a building full of adults for 24 hours..

cbrchick 04-10-2009 08:43 AM

I'll be working tonight b/c we have these stupid "fill-in" shifts. I woulda taken it off but I have limited time due to my up coming mat leave. What sucks is that I wont be paid for the holiday b/c I am only working 4 hours of it on the holiday and the rest falls past midnight.

What can you do....

Easter isnt a holiday for us either, and I am on fri, sat and sun nights. I will have a cool doc to work with and mos tof the real lazy/shitty nurses are big bible thumpers so hopefully they take off so I have good people to work with.

tom

Archren 04-10-2009 09:10 AM

Working, but we have "liberal leave" today, which probably means the Sergeant Major will let us cut out at noon. :D

z06boy 04-10-2009 09:13 AM

Working but traffic was very light for the commute. I wish it was that light everyday.

wildchild 04-10-2009 09:23 AM

I'm in. they took away our "good fri" holiday after people complained they didn't get any multitude of other religious holidays off. So now we get nothing. Love it when people get what they ask for. They just didn't realize they were asking to work on good fri. LOL

ontwo 04-10-2009 09:27 AM

Yes, I usually work on Fridays. This is Friday, right?:idk:

Friday and Monday were made holiday's for "us" the workers.

The way my shifts work this week, I work both. I'll be paid extra for Monday but not tonight as the holiday is defined as 07-19. I think if we work on any hour of a defined holiday we should get paid just like everyone else. Union/employer stuff.

My weekend is screwed. I would have half of Saturday off - I was going to have Sunday off but my husband (much like Tmall I imagine) has duty on Sunday - so I wont see him this weekend. So... I am working for a girl so she can drive home to see her family.

My turn around is going to suck large. Pregnancy is making 12 hour shifts feel much longer.

RACER X 04-10-2009 09:36 AM

Z is , april and i are going to the zoo. :)

Tmall 04-10-2009 09:38 AM

One good thing... Tomorrow when its pouring rain, I can catch up on my maintenance.

I guess being a state facility they stay away from the more religious holidays. In addition to accumulating vacation time we get 10 in lieu of holiday days. if you work or dont ask to be off that day you get an extra day off to use whenever.

Nows the down time for those days, we had 2 days in feb but now no more till memorial day.

Since I probalby won't get another day off until May sometime with our upcoming activation for the flood, figured now would be a good time.

Halifax, on the base keeping a watchful eye on an almost empty building until 9am in the morn..

Today was nice, tomorrow is rain, Sunday is flurries, and Monday is rain..

So, my spite muscle felt happy that my ruined day could have been ruined for others.

MILK 04-10-2009 03:26 PM

Well today one of my co-workers sent me a link to a cute Easter bunny rapping.

The name of the link threw me a little though..

You're not one of those that believes that most of those who come in ER drugseeking, say they have Fibromyalgia are full of shit? Or have I gotten the wrong disease? I know it's fibro-something.

Its one of them, surprisingly we dont see too many drug seekers here. Plus since I work in a predominantly black community its easier to fake a sickle cell pain crisis. Most of us in the Er just give the sicklers whatever they want but we also know a lot of the regulars who have the disease.

I think more of what I see is usualy cured with a work note than anything else though.

Ahhh.... gotcha. Quite a few of the medblogs I read bring it up often and believe alot of the people who come in claiming it are drug seekers, especially since they ask for certain narcotics by name, swearing nothing else works but that.

Personally, I never heard of it until I started reading medblogs and have yet to run across someone who actually has it.

Speaking of which, it's past time to see if there's any new posts in the 40-something blogs I read on a daily basis. :D

i can see something like that or restless leg syndrome being an easy thing to fake for pain meds. Some of the tell tale signs can be: they know pharmacology better than you, tell you only drug X works, and theyre convieniently allergic to all the others.

Some diseases are more prevelant in certain races/ethnicities so you may be exposed to some diseases more than others depending on where you are. Here I see a lot of people with sickle cell but if I go to a predominantly white community you will never see it. The nice thing about being in a hell hole like this is we see a lot of good medicine, some of the more obscure diseases, and we see a lot of them run its course (high blood pressure and diabetics the most) you dont see as much of it in the cush suburban ER's.
