Cave's HID install
So last winter I did an HID install on my Ultra. It has gotten rave reviews all year. Anybody that has seen it knows what I'm talking about. Mine was the proto-type. I don't know of anybody that has done the setup I have. Not with HID's in the aux lights and with full out timer delays to save on battery power prior to motor start up.
You have to order 2 sets of HIDs from DDM 1 - H4 hi/lo 55W 8K 1 - H3 35W 6K 1 - adjure aux light lens replacements 2 - wolsentech TDRs 1 - power block (8ga in: 4 outs) 6' - 8ga wire 2 - inline fuses (20A & 30A) For his, he didn't need the leap of faith I had to. He knows the setup works. And for the record, Cave... "You're dead to me". So here we go. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs001.jpg Tear it down http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs002.jpg This needs to go http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs004.jpg In here http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs003.jpg Pull the seat and battery cover so you can run the 8ga wire to the front. This is a better setup. Giving you planety of battery power for anything you run in the fairing. In this case HIDs, and with one slot empty on the power block, his up coming hogtunes amp. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs005.jpg Run the 8ga wire under the dash and into the fairing... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs006.jpg Mock up with cardboard first for the panels to hold all the stuff for this HID install http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs007.jpg We then mocked up with some thin galvanized cause he hadn't gotten his sheet metal yet. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs008.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs009.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs010.jpg Then work on blowing the 1" hole in the back of the stock HD buckets. This is a 3/4 in hole I drilled http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs011.jpg Then I dremmeled the hole out to 1" http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs012.jpg Got about half way thru the dremmel job http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs013.jpg and figured I should pass this off to Cave... it's his bike afterall... let him make some sparks http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs014.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs015.jpg Got some good fender sheet metal, transferred the galvonized templates over to that, cut out, trim some more, prime, paint... install. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs017.jpg Other side holds the headlight and one aux light ballast. The far end ballast is on top of the radio. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs026.jpg We started wiring everything, and of coarse it all was soldiered http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs021.jpg |
Got the delays wired and mounted vertically just above & right of power block
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs023.jpg Cave pointing out our nice loom job http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs022.jpg Now with the aux lights also wired in http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs024.jpg On the backside of this is the hi/lo controller & relay for the headlight. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs018.jpg All in all, it was 10hrs. It may not look like that but only getting a couple of hours an evening it takes a while. Plus soldier every joint, very methodical about routing and making it a good clean install. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...eanHIDs027.jpg We then adjusted the aux lights properly and he's GTG. He backed it out friday night (sat morn) at 2am and was beyond excited. Hope you like em bud cause now you're dead to me. |
Looks good. Wicked set up too.

solder... soldier belongs in war.

Hey, the, "your dead to me," line is mine. Hands off.
and why am I dead to you? what ever did I do wrong? Other than choosing the possibly worst week in your life to do this job? you know I love you, man. thanks for the help and bearing with my neurocese with wanting to solder everything. If you need my help with some work on your ride or around the house just give me a call. And I'll be there |
Yep... worse week in many weeks to do this... but you also paid for it... worse week for doing it with weather... it was awesome out all last week!
How has it been in the morning ride home from midnights??? |

But the ride home has been pretty awesome. I have been flashed 4 times with oncoming drivers brights. I don't give a shit just means they see me. Its weird I can see the bugs flyin at me real clear so I know the front of my cycle is bug city. haha Quote:
Thanks Uma, but I am just the delivery boy for ya. I am glad you like it and hope you a speedy recovery. |
HIDs are by far the best money I spent on my bike. Especially since the stock Buell lights are worse than holding a fucking Bic lighter in front of you.
|
I can honestly tell ya... I've only been flashed maybe 3 times all year..
