Fun time winter project.....
SO I bought a really cheap ($1K) 03 Sv1000s with a bent shift fork. I’ve cracked the cases and am awaiting parts. While I’ve been waiting, I’ve been thinking about what kind of bike I’d like to build with it.
I like the v-twin, I like light bikes. I want to build it back into a real “Japanese Ducati”. All the pluses of the Jap bikes; sturdy and reliable, with all the pluses of a Duc; handling, light weight, character. I want a full or half fairing; no streetfighters; it should serve well as a daily bike (no 220 hp grenades). It should look good but be understated (I am not a flame paintjob kind of guy). I need to put about $600 total into the engine/gearbox rebuild; my total budget for the bike is $5K….that means I have about $3400 for mods……… Let the suggestions begin…………….. http://members.cox.net/dadmun/images/sv1000s_1.jpg |
Hrm id say cast off gsxr suspension, a nice system, and maybe if there's enough left over some light wheels

First step, get some hi-mounts or hi-exits. Low cans like that are ugly to the extreme.
Get some lower clipons. When you have the fairings you want, paint it dark forest green, with c/f exhaust. Get a single-sided swingarm, or at least powdercoat the stock one black so that it's not as visible. It looks like a 2x4. |
A nice exhaust and that 'twin will sound like pure sex

Build your own trellis frame.
Beyond that, put your ability to find good deals to good use and find some old track bike... Harvest light wheels and suspension bits off it... Then go after exhaust and power commander. |
