Have you actually sat on the CR? I don't know about you, but I find feeling like you're leaning over the front wheel very disconcerting.
The R's geometry isn't really different but that 'ugly face' as you call it (

) keeps you from feeling like you're going to go over the nose if you get on the brakes.
