Even then with these larger than stock tire sizes, depending on the model you buy can rub the swingarm, chain and other parts back there.
I can pretty much guess that you wont get a 170 tire on that rear rim, and if you do you will be hard pressed to get it to seat right, and it will be very squeezed giving you a pretty extreme profile and very wierd handling.
For the muffler question, you won't loose any noticable performance, however depending on how long it is and how much back pressure you have, you might have to re jet the carbs. If the carbs were already jet'd for the yosh pipe you should be good.

The size thing worried me at first but with a little help from google.
I found this nifty chart created by EX500 riders
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...JadCGCNQ&hl=en
Whoops and thew 170...had my head up my ass its a 160/60-17 Diablo.
Plus the stock shock with be swapped out for a GSXR600 Piggy back shock

(I know the gxr works with the stock swing arm and SHOULD work with the EX500)
Plus the EX500 swing arm seems to be the same size(rough measurements)
Not bitchen, just sayin'
And for the info on the pipe THANK YOU, that what i needed to know ^_^
Hope this works out like i'm planing
