Web Hosting/Website questions
Okay, so I know how to get my domain registered but am clueless when it comes to knowing anything about web hosting or web design.
I've decided to go with a Canadian Company (with servers in Canada) for registering my domain. They also offer web hosting but looking at the "chart" for comparing is leaving me a little cross eyed. So.....I have a few questions that I hope someone can help out with. How much disk space do I need? Bandwidth? This is a small personal site for an on-the-side business I'm starting in January. I will eventually have a portfolio up as well as client's pictures. Any advice you can give on this is greatly appreciated! |

I use fatcow and I love them. No BS on the 24/7 tech support. The tech staff know there shit and I have never had to wait on hold to get a person or be on the phone with them for more than 10 minutes. Pretty cheap for a year hosting package and you get the domain name. If you already registered a domain name you can transfer it to them and they give you credit for it. They have some tools for you to create your own site if you don't know how to code as well as advanced ones. Never had any down time or other problems. The email system they use is pretty good too.
P.S. Right now they have a special going, $66 for the year. That includes unlimited disk space and bandwidth. |

Are you selling? You could use the Yahoo! stores setup, which I hear works well.

I'm not selling anything. Just offering a service and need a basic business set up. Basically need a portfolio, reviews, services offered, and a contact section. That's about it.

Wow that's a good deal. I just registered the domain through godaddy just so that I have it ready for when I need it.

If you go with Fatcow, which I recommend, you can transfer the domain name. If you still have the website in a year then you can use your credit to renew the domain name rather than have to pay.

Okay another question.
I found business cards I want on vistaprint.com. I also found out that they do websites that will match the design of your business card (a must for me). Their hosting is more expensive. Can I pay for their service for a month and then transfer over to someone else? What I'm really interested in is the template and they don't seem to "sell " the template. Is it possible to recreate the same template? |
