going off racerx's job thread, what's been your favorite job?


mine was driving these! man that was a fun job, worked for a company building landfills, just drove these around all day moving dirt, and made good money, would still be working there but the company went under

before anybody ask, yes you can drift these in the mud, but is a little different because the front wheels dont turn them, they articulate between the cab and the bed, which also means you can flip the bed over and the cab stay upright, or vice versa, but if you flipped one(happened a lot) they would just flip you back upright with a trackhoe and back to work..

a lot of times, we would have to back up such a steep incline that bulldozers would have to push the truck up, when you are dumping a load on an incline that steep, it was easy for the bed to flip, since a lot of times it was on unpacked dirt

My boss loved me, said i was probably the best driver they had ever had..and i did do pretty good, they would make me do the tricky stuff, like backing up a 1/8 mile little path with only inches on either side of the truck and BIG drop offs on both sides

started my truck up one morning and the boss pulled me out of it(was the biggest piece of shit truck we had and nobody would hardly drive it) said another guy was gonna take that truck, and for me to help him out for a while, well about an hour later i see it coming down the road...a brand new John Deere dump truck, he said there's your truck and nobody else is allowed to drive it.... hour later i was on a soft steep incline, raised the bed to dump a load, watching in my mirrors, i see the bed falling over, tried to lower it , but was too late, well the weight of the bed falling over the bank was enough to pull the whole truck off the embankment, took about an hour to get it out with trackhoes, no damage though

anyway, i miss that job

Delivering Pizzas in a college town ROCKED! And I was in kick ass shape - I was phobic of elevators so I had to be able to RUN up 11 flights of stairs in some dorms!!
pay sucked but tips MORE than made up for it!

shoveling cedar chips got me in great shape - but it was thankless, dusty, and I had dusty boogers for months afterwards even WITH a respirator mask!

Yup delivered pizza for a little while in a college town. It was great because my first week there was rush week for all the sororities and for some reason blowing the bizza boy was a big rite of initiation. At first I thought it was just my manish good looks and charm, then I found out they were doing it for other reasons, but it was cool with me.

Honestly a toss up.

1. My transportation/inventory manager position.
- I worked 60+ hours a week
- I was not appreciated for what I did
- the bennies sucked.
-BUT I loved the work. I delt with every aspect of production, from the individual parts being delivered, to the ordering and building of the boats, and then to the shipping and delivering of the finished product.
I just really enjoyed the diversity of the position and the chance to work with everyone involved. As well as helping test and show off the product.
Using the boats on the weekends was a nice perk too.

2. Farm hand/production manager for a local farmer
- NO steady hours.
- NO bennies
- Again, just plain enjoyed the work I was doing. Something different every day, and lots of variety in the work.
-First job I have EVER been appreciated for what I did, and that's HUGE in my book.


Guard jobs would come in after those. Great bennies, decent hours, but the work can be so/so.
I guess sometimes you need to compromise. money, bennies, steady hours and stability along with some appreciation > Appreciation and Enjoyment with no bennies and unsure stability.

Current job...I love teaching. Even if three year old are often difficult!

My fav would have to be working at Rose's when I was 16. Didn't make shit but we had more fun there than most people are allowed to. Second to that would have to be working at a grocery store and closing up late at night. We would be sweeping the floors and accidentaly drink a few beers between isles.

Respect? No way.
Benefits? What?
Decent pay? Compared to...?

But there was something satisfying about it.

It is true...I drove an end-dump for 3 months after high school and before college. I thought it was hilarious when I took an inside line around a corner and absolutely covered the minivan next to me in mud, bonus that the windows were open.
