Default The Tiller Rides Again...

Just got back from putting about 45 miles on the TLR... feels damn good. This weekend I tore her down, swapped the hydro clutch for a cable clutch (aka the BEST mod ever), installed stainless brake lines and new pads in the front, changed the oil and flushed the engine, etc... you know all that shit you're supposed to do after the bike has been sitting for a year. Tonight I finished bleeding the lines and flushed the rear brake system... figured that would be a good idea because it was close to the color of the last shit I took (and I had eaten Oreos)... Put some air in the tires, geared up, and was off.

Everything pretty much fell into place... It was tough getting used to the new clutch action, but after a number of stop and go's I got the feel for it... Worked the brakes a bit, going then slowing and eventually some panic stops. Flawless.

I did notice some hesitation at some points... combo of old gas and plugs that are probably ready to be changed I'm sure. A tune-up is certainly warranted....

Also on the agenda... CLEAN THE BIKE. It's fucking filthy... ugly (and not in the way that I like ugly)... Prolly put the lower fairings back on, for now ... New tires are needed, possibly a new battery, and new chain/gearing. Then in the long run... Proper uglification... no body work, chopped subframe, reroute all the wiring/coolent lines, a new radiator, under-seat the battery, lights, paint, etc, etc...

so I'm not the only one who prefers a cable clutch over a hydro? Phew.

I've been happy with the hydraulic clutch on my TLR for 10 years now..

What is it about it that you like so much? I'm not a wheelie guy...I know I know..blasphemy when owning a liter twin.

Same here, man. I had no problems with clutch engagement or what-have-you.
Same thing on my 1125R.

Disagree.
Best mod ever is swapping that stupid boat anchor of a rotary damper for a real shock.
Unfortunately, I never had the money to do Penske or Ohlins. I was going to pick up the Bitubo shock, but their dealer network sucked.

I'm not much of a wheelie guy either... For me it was all about feel. With the hydro clutch there was no feel for the thing engaging which drove me nuts. With the cable clutch you can feel it engaging much much better...
