Default Drz 400e/250

So my bank is really dragging their feet about this loan for the F4i, and its making me think about going elsewhere. My friends credit union is a little better about loans.

But in the meantime I have been thinking about cheaper options for worst case scenario. I just need SOMETHING to ride by about 3 weeks from now. The one that I've been reading on is the DRZ400E. I've been seeing some 2000-2003 models in the $1400-2100 range. Or newer DRZ250s for the same coin.

So, what does everybody think? Good bikes? I will most likely be running back roads, not much off road stuff. I'm 6' 1'', 280 lbs, should I not even think about the 250 and just go for the 400? Any comparable models from the other brands? I'm not going to lie, I've never really ventured far out of my sportbike box......

I have a DR200 for the street. I'm 100lbs. It tops out at 65 mph avg for me, 70 downhill with the wind behind me. Its a fun little bike for light trails and commuting locally (not on the highway) but not that practical in general. I doubt you would get much more out of a 250 especially since you are almost 3x my weight.

make sure the 400 is plate able... the E model was the offroad only model. has more power stock.. and is lighter... but doesn't have the same subframe as the S... and like I said... can be plated but there's some work to be done.

also... the E has no spedo... just a odometer. and the headlight is for legality only... it's basically a turn signal bulb... from what I've been told

I would get something bigger for the street. DR650 comes to mind. Especially for your size. The 400 should be left for motards. It does nothing spectacular, just does everything mediocre.

i would not look at the 250 unless you're just doing a little playing around.

the 400 engine is awesome had one in my 4 wheeler. I put tons of miles on it and none of them were at an easy pace. as said above make sure it's the one that is street legal. the price you quoted seems low for a streetable bike.

neither one of those bikes will break any road speed records but I have heard the 400 is pretty good at highway speeds.

The problem is with a lot of bikes at highway speed, you can easily crank around people in emergencies. You can't on the 400, you accelerate as slow as a normal cage.

Looking into the DR650. There are 98-99 models going about $1800+ that look in good shape.

Possibilities....

There is a 2006 DRZ 400 S at All Seasons in Wooster for $2900 (sure they would deal with you).
