Close. Actually, it looks more like he had insufficient brakes for the boat he was towing. Likely he came up on the light a little too fast, expected to stop like he does when not towing a load, and instead the extra momentum pushed him through the intersection and into the pole.

On the plus side, the beer coolers in the truck bed appear uninjured! the beer is unhurt, which is more important than the failure. |

Indeed. I know a guy who made a similar mistake with a smaller boat and a Ford Ranger.
Luckily it just pushed him into an empty intersection and didn't decide to mount his truck. It did, however, scare him enough that he bought a larger truck to pull the boat.

Here's a hint for anybody who ever tows a boat . . . make sure the straps are on before you move it. The only time the straps should be removed is right before you back it into the water. Even if you just have to go "down the street" - put 'em on.
I saw a boat upsidown in the ditch a few years ago that had rolled right off its trailer because the owner was trying to haul it down the highway without the straps on, lol. |

Puh-leaze. It is a single axle trailer! If that boat is over 5000 lbs, I'd be surprised. You could pull that thing with a Tacoma or Frontier without worry. I'd be curious to know the story (wet roads, asleep driver, failed brakes, etc.) because there is no reason that truck shouldn't have stopped that boat. |
