Default Finding Employment Online

I think this was asked once before, but I'm not sure....

How many of you have or have had friends find employment by submitting applications and/or resumes online?

Just curious to see if I'm wasting my time as in the past, I've always went out searching, instead of sitting at home, banging away on the computer looking for jobs.

It seems that it's becoming more popular to apply online. Even our local La Work Force now has everything online, even filing for unemployment. I remember when you used to have to go to the local office and fill out paper after paper.....

I've even set up taking the civil service exam for a few jobs online. Printed out my paperwork to take to the testing site and everything. Since I've attempted this before, I must say, doing all of this online was ALOT better than the old way.

Looking in the local newspaper for a job here is even easier online. Seems like most of them direct you to careerbuilders, especially if you view them online.

Although I like the idea of sitting at home putting in resumes and saving my gas instead of running all over the damn place, I'm really curious as to if it works or not.

So far I've set myself up on careerbuilder, La's civil service, La's Work Force, and have been looking on usajobs (surprisingly, they have openings that I'm qualified and over qualified for). Keep in mind I'm not just going this route. I have a few places I'm planning to hit up this week including a reputable employment agency as well as some hospitals, Riverwood (or whatever the hell it's called now). Next week I'll lower my standards and put in apps for minimum wage jobs. Anything is better than nothing until something better comes along.

Also, if anyone has any other places to suggest to look online, I'll take those too.

Depends on the company. The bigger the company, the more likely that applying online is the ONLY way of applying, and walking in to introduce yourself isn't going to help. Everything is controlled by the stupid-ass HR department. However, small companies are the opposite.

Thanks for the links, Angee! Now I'll never get anything done today.

I've been sitting here all day working on my resume and getting a good bit amount of apps in.

More for me to go through! YAY!

I found one of my jobs on Craigslist... granted, it's pretty rare to find a decent one on there, but it's free to look.
