It was 1890-something, so I'd blame the Irish.

There were 2 or 3 bikes under there. It was hard to tell how many for sure. There are at least two locking posts under that mess and there are frequently 2 bikes to a post.

Just thought I'd post an update. They closed the street and sidewalk past this building, the day that this incident happened. It's STILL blocked. That section of the building has been torn down to the second floor ceiling line.
It's STILL closed. It's a protected "heritage building" and the owners are apparently in Mumbai. It's suspect that it will turn into a case of "demolition by neglect." In the meanwhile, two lanes of traffic are closed on one of the busiest surface streets in the city, because of this. Two restaurants will likely go bankrupt, if they haven't already. Maybe 50 people are out of work. I think that it's time the city started billing the owners for what they've done.

And now, after all this time with that building still unrepaired, it has burnt to the ground. Surprised?
What a day to leave my camera at home.
