Default Helmet storage?

It is okay to keep a helmet in my trunk?
My thought is the heat won't be a problem, cause if I was riding in the baking sun - it would be the same heat.

I have several helmets and I was thinking I'd keep one in the trunk of my car, in case I an un-expected opportunity to ride.

Wait, you're in Hawaii.. it doesn't really get HOT in Hawaii.

I can't imagine it would be that much of a problem.. highs are usually in the 80's right? Trunk is shaded, and while the temperature inside would be higher than the ambient outside temperature, being as I typically ride in upper 90's/100 degree temps here in Texas, I don't really think it would be too much of an issue.

But I'm no expert.

Are you going to put your helmet next to all the water?

I wouldn't leave it in the trunk, the concentrated heat could cause the foam to de-bond from the shell, although I doubt it's very likely. I'd be more concerned about all the rolling around it would do back there, although something like the Scorpion racecase would take care of it. I have one and it's great. You can find them on amazon for about $40.

I left a torque wrench in my hatchback, and even though the hatch is a completely covered area with a plastic cover on top of it, the wrench was too hot to touch.

i wouldn't leave it in your trunk. the liner is some kinda styrofoam and the heat may make it more brittle over time.

I'm with the rest, I wouldn't just keep it there. Once and a while shouldn't hurt but long term, I'd be concerned.

Exactly.

At the track, I store mine in the office rather than in the garage with the rest of the gear. The reason for that is the temp the garage gets to. Rather safe than sorry... my head is too important to figure out if the helmet will degrade faster or not.
