How do I drain the coolant?

I am a technical retard and have yet to learn to work on my own bike (for various reasons).

How do I drain the coolant?

Look for a drain petcock. If there isn't one, Pull the lower radiator hose.

1. Locate water pump - Note the pipe\tube\hose
2. Locate the radiator intake and out...er umm out-take (not to be confused with shiitake) hoses.
3. Locate your radiator cap
4. Locate your coolant reseviour
Locate the microfiche for your bike on ronayayers site to find drain bolt.

Check the pipe\hose\tube\shiitake mushroom going from the water pump to the radiator (the one closest to the ground...might be on the left hand side of the bike). there should be a drain bolt somewhere.

Stick a pan under it.
Find a stopwatch, a piece of cheesecake, 4x6 wooden board bathtub partially filled with warm water (should be 6 inches of water) and a cat.
start the stop watch.

1. Loosen the drain bolt and begin draining the coolant
2. Loosen the radiator cap
4. loosen the cap to the coolant reservoir
5. Throw the cat in the bathtub
6. Place board over bathtub
7. Enjoy the cheescake. using the bathtub as a table

When the coolant has drained, tighten (but not too tight...) up the drainbolt.
Pour appropriate amount into radiator (check your thermostat while your at it for thermostativeness).

Remove the the board and set the cat free. Explain to the cat that it was for its own good and that you did it to keep them from drinking the tasty antifreeze. Exaplin to them the dangers of drinking anti freeze and that if they had tasted the antifreeze they would end up in a dark place called kitty hell where all cats spend eternity in water.

After you send the cat off on its merry way, the first batch of airbubble will have made there way out of the system.

The next 15 minutes to 15 days will be getting rid of airbubbles.

Inspect the old coolant for oddity. Look for oil, rust content and images of Jesus or Micheal J-ckson.
Place the old coolant in a container. Take a rag to the drain pan and stick it back under the the drain bolt.

Loosen up the drain bolt a little until you have consistent coolant coming out and tighten. Tighten up the bolt and put the coolant you caught back in at the top.
Shimmy, shake the bike a bit and see if you can shake those bubble out.

Remember that your bike takes a certain amount of coolant and that's what should be going in. If it takes 6 qt and you still have 4 qt's in the contaner.....you got some air in the system or you didn't drain all the way.

So top it off, tighten up the
Drain bolt
Radiator cap
Reservoir cap and start it up.
Watch your temp needle and let the bike warm up to the point where the thermostat trips and the coolant flows.

Turn the bike off.
Move it around a bit to show it whos boss and let it cool down.
Pop the radiator cap and check the level...put the cap back on. You should be good to go.

As long as you put in the amount of coolant the bike is supposed to take.



Note...there is probably a better way to do it. but that should cover the basics

On the CBARRR there were a couple drain points. You should have a drain bolt and then you have to drain the resi too.

On your bike they may have eliminated the drain bolt and other convenient bits in the pursuit of lightness so it may be the matter of disconnecting coolant hoses..

Yeah get a shop manual...

You'll need the shop manual to sop up the coolant you spill.

I have a drain bolt.

It is far easier to pull the hoses for me.

Drain bolt has never been removed from my bike through numerous flushes.
