Local Army/Navy store (not a big-box store) carries 'em around here though they're more expensive. Maybe check there?

Probably a semi-auto like a 10/22. Semi-autos can be picky about what they feed. However, I was wondering the same thing... Remington makes several different types of 22lr rounds... some of them have to work.

Could be, but all over the web people are saying don't even bother with Remington ammo on the gun.

Perhaps so.
Anything short of their Eley line never really rated well with the paper punchers anyway. That American Eagle (either the AE22 or AE5022) is as good as you need for plinking and rates pretty well for accuracy & reliability.

It's been a few years since I've gone plinking, but I know for a fact that I've run a few thousand Remington shells through my 22 with no problems in the past. That was a while ago, though . . . maybe things have changed.

This is good to know. We bought a new toy this weekend... it's something to teach the girls and plink rodents at the track. Y'all should come play sometime.

price skyrocketed in Sept 2008 (2007 maybe?). i stocked up before then since it was fairly common knowledge that the price hike was coming. i think your days of getting the same deal you used to get are gone. i checked the one online site i really liked, http://www.ammunitiontogo.com , and even their cheapest for 500 of any brand .22LR is $19 - on top of that, you're still paying $10 shipping. not worth it. unless someone comes up with a magic source, i think you're SOL.

Say when. Depending on what you picked up, I can probably make some good ammo suggestions.

I still do business with them, even though I pay shipping and sales tax.
Primarily because of their selection and good service.
(wasn't so great during the peak of the Great Gun & Ammo Grab of 2008-2009, but it's better now)
