This is an email I got from Bryan, his workout partner. I asked if it was OK to post it here and he said yes

Yeah, Bill was my training partner, room-mate, best friend, mentor, savior, and the father I never had. He was and still is the most important person in the world to me, more important than any relatives. My love for Bill is more powerful than any I've ever had for any girlfriend, or relative, and this is no exaggeration.

We originally met over the internet in 2006 via bodybuilding.com's message board, because he was seeking a personal trainer. Shortly after initial greetings we began talking over the phone, and our conversations were always more friendly than business, with most of the actual training stuff being done through e-mails. We did that for two years, and never met in person during that time, but during 2008 things began to change. My work dried up to the point I was already starving, about to be homeless, and had no hope. Bill provided that hope, and did something you would only expect to see in movies - he took me in, put a roof over my head, and helped me get back on my feet. During a time where I was a shell of a person he became my emotional support; whenever I felt like I was slipping back he would pull me back up. He was tremendously gentle in how he did it, and exercised a level of patience over the years that is frankly beyond my comprehension. He was my rock of Gibraltar.

Bill was consistent in how he treated all people he came into contact with, even over the internet (although he did love trolling people on the internet, as I often stood over his shoulder when he was doing it, but it was usually just in good fun without hurting others, he was always very wary of hurting others). There was never any exaggeration with him, he was always honest, principled, and had integrity to spare. He wasn't a guy that changed based on the people he was surrounded with, and this is why those close to him developed familial relationships. You often hear of someone that will give you the shirt off their back, Bill would give of himself everything he possibly could even if it put him in a disadvantaged position.

Bill didn't attach much importance on material possessions, and paid them very little mind. He had a general disdain for money, and didn't take it too serious, only spending it on the activities he really enjoyed (lifting, riding). If anyone he knew needed monetary help he was the first person to step in, sacrificing something he wanted to buy if necessary, and he would always refuse any attempts to return the favor. He always seemed to be moving in different worlds than other people, like there was something other-worldly to him. A very calm, complete understanding of the world that seemed to drive everything he did.

It's funny you talk about his discussions about diet - I can vouch for it that he absolutely executed that clean diet all the time. He would have a cheat meal 1-2 times per week, and even the cheat meals were quite clean (we're talking fajitas at restaurants, where the only thing "dirty" is the tortillas). He also loved sushi, he was so enthusiastic for it that it makes me smile now to think of whenever he'd talk about it. Aside from that, 5 meals per day, every day, and squeaky clean. He didn't complain about it, although I would have a lot of fun needling the obvious visual distaste he had for tuna, but ate twice a day every day.
