Depends on how much you are worth to the company, what you do for a living, and what type of company it is. Leaving is very much an option for fast movers and people wanting raises in a high demand career. Some companies struggle to retain talent.

But did you tell them? Or just apply? Its nothing for an employee to apply for jobs outside or sometimes even within the company, but typically like Ontwo said, you keep your mouth shut until you get a real offer. Then you lay it out there to see if they want to keep you.
