The R1 is also fast, and can be made comfortable. Of course, the 98 R1 is more desirable than a new R1 because it is carbed and has the long-stroke engine for low-rpm power. Most of the old R1's I see were thrashed. But I've seen some nice low-mileage ZX-9's (post 97's are best) for $3500. They need suspension work and the jet needle has to be shimmed, but what a great bike.

I got my 2000 R1 with most performance mods you can do for $3800. Only downfall is 42000 miles, but it still runs like a champ.
