Answer to question about Buell reliability....
This is kind of old news now that they have come out with the 1125 motor (which if the V60 Rotax engines are any indication will be a very good, strong performer).
This is really for the older XB engines/platform. It's an old article on a 2004 bike. There were several updates that have come along through 2009, so many of the complaints were rectified in later versions of the platform. Here is a long distance test by Motorrad. If you aren't familiar with this German magazine, they are pretty much whores to BMW. They went in with the idea that this bike would grenade in 10,000 miles and worked diligently to prove that belief correct by beating the piss out of it. Here are the results: http://froggypwns.com/buellpdfs/Motorrad_article_en.pdf Very interesting read.

They sure did rate it low and a high cost per mile.

How so? 1730 Euro was what they spent in service and repairs. That was about 17% of the total cost of the 50,000km test run. The remainder of the costs were the same whether you owned a Buell or something else (tires, brake pads, oil, spark pluts, filters, etc.). They'd have had the same number of tires, spark plugs, filters, etc. if they were reviewing a Ducati. The service costs would have been much higher as well as the cost of parts. I saw it as pretty low cost of ownership. If you just looked at the "service and repairs" component alone, it came to .03 Euro per mile. I didn't think that was too expensive.
