I love Great Danes, they have a very gentle and playful personality. Like most strong dogs you have to be their leader in order to have well behaved dogs, goes without saying and I'm sure you know that.

The reason I opted for a Pit Bull over a Great Dane when we got our puppy was due to the large number of health issues that Danes face. DEFINITELY look into some pet insurance if you go the Dane route.

No faggy names...Thinking Thor, Ajax, Patton or Mr.Snugglebottom if its a boy we get or Hera, Diana, Loki or fluffybunnyslippers if its a girl.

My wife said it would be funny to see a big, manly dog with a sissy name...but just to use in public..."Hey, cool, huge dog...Whats his name?" "Mr. Snugglebottom..." "" Ha ha

I love Danes and have wanted one for a long time, loved to take my buddy's dogs when he would go out of town. Thanks all.
Great Danes rock! They were my first choice of dogs because I have lot of room as well. They only negative is they have a fairly short life due to their tremendous size. My neighbor has one and it is a very friendly and gentle giant.

Usually rescue dogs are always fixed btw. I would be surprised otherwise.

Good luck!

Hahaha! Oh and "Loki" won't work for a girl's name besides he was evil. How about "Lady Sif", "Valkyrie", "Brunhilde", "Snookie-wookums"?

It depends, my dog is a rescue dog and he wasn't fixed. I think it partially depends on how old they are when you get them. Of course you "agree" to have them fixed but...

No problem. I've gotten 3 rescue dogs in my life and only one was fixed when I got it because of age.
