That rode in CO is in my my future trip... so many good looking rds in CO
if you're going to Portland the way your map is... take the Historic Columbia River Hwy. much more scenic than the interstate. MUCH more twisty too... though depending when you go through there... there might be lots of traffic. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...6&ie=UTF8&z=13 or... Take this route around Mt Hood... GORGEOUS http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...04&ie=UTF8&z=9 also I'd jump over to the coast (you can go through my home town Sherwood) and ride down to cali that way... oregon coast is GORGEOUS... and you'd catch the Redwoods in north cali. (also the roads that jump back from 101 to I5 are fucking AWESOME for riding http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...1,21.51123&z=6 |

Getting better. But why would you want to take I-5 from Portland to Bakersfield? Time? If you have some, go south along the coast (Route 1).
Re: the map of Durango to Ouray (Route 550). Million Dollar Highway, everyone takes it. You see the town of Rico, west of Silverton, that's a ghost town. I worked all around that area. Hardly anyone takes the road from Dolores to Telluride (Route 145). It's mostly closed in the winter, but I think it's a great idea to do both roads. |

I've driven from Sacramento to Portland about 30 times on I5... not a fun drive. I mean you have a couple passes that would be fun on the bike... but it'd be more fun to hit the coast by far.
if you go down I-5 stop at crater lake in Oregon... you won't regret it. |

Whats your time table?
Leave? Back? And why wouldn't you take the PCH down thru Cali instead of whatever you are taking? |

Is that I-29 south from Sioux Falls to KC?
There are better backroads than that. Not saying you'll get super twisties, but better than super slab. |
