If you break a light bulb do not attempt to take the bulb out until you ensure that the switch is in the off position. It hurts like a bitch and feels much like a taser. The only think that hurts more than the shock of grabbing the bulb is the feeling of your body completly locked as you slowly fall toward the floor and hit it like a bag of bricks,

been there done that! good news is once you have done it once its unlikely you will repeat the mistake. Unless of course you landed head first in which case the only good news is you will probably be wearing a helmet from now on so the fall won't hurt as much.

And people laugh at me when I tell them, yes indeed I have gone on service calls to change light bulbs - especially for "tall" fixtures or recessed can lights in high ceilings...
