Having had to live with contract laborers at work, I really can't fuckin blame them. Contractors are some of the nastiest human refuse on the planet. They steal/lie/cheat/destroy/crap (literally) all over everything.

This oil boom is ruining what ND is, and it sucks.
Take people that can't find a job anywhere else, and start paying them $100k/year +. Now, work them for 20-30 days straight, give them 5 off, then another 30 straight, all at 14-16 hour days. They have no respect for anything. They start out with brand new nice shit, and within a year it's just that... shit. Hell, even the fast food joints have to START people at $16-$18/hour just to get HS kids to work there, and even then they don't show up. Combine that with all the hunting habitat that they have destroyed with either the wells, or the growth of housing for these "man camps" and it's killing the Western ND. Yes, its good now... money flowing in and flowing out, but businesses are going down the drain, no one gives a shit about anything, and anyone not in the oil business can hardly afford to make it.

Large amounts of transient labour doesn't grow a town, it kills it. You'd be talking about doubling the population of this town, with people who don't have any vested interest in it. I'd hate to be in that position.
