I can get one illegally in a few hrs if I wanted to (remeber the nice neighborhood I work in LOL)

I realy havent had much interest in them, I hav ebeen to the range a few times with my friends and it did nothing for me. Since we bought the house I have given it some thought. My dad recently got into being a gun owner and now has 3 or 4. I guess we will see down the road what happens.

NY is one of those states where they make a complete bitch to get a handgun.

Out in Suffolk, ya got know people...and those people have to be in members of the SCPD, specifically whoever is assigned to handling applications and at least a few officers. On top of that, you better have the type of relationship where you invite them over to dinner or hang out on occasion.
In other words unless your buddies or family are officers, your chance of handgun permit is slim to none (hope you like rifles). Even if you are on auxiliary you have to kiss ass and brown nose your way for permits.

Rifles...not sure of the hassle.
Shotguns are pretty much the only option if you want to protect the home.
