It's not hard to take apart a laptop. Just keep up with which screws go where.

If it isn't consistent, then it's harder to troubleshoot (obviously). The first thing, that I would do, is take the covers off the notebook and make sure that all of the cables to the screen are properly seated. People tend to forget that when you lug something around everyday, and bash it against stuff, things come loose. I just had to replace my own notebook, after 3 years of bringing it to work on my bike.
