Split second decision, lifetime of regret. Liability...Nope shit happens. They widower is a hell of a guy to realize that and not try and cash in. Hope the US does the right thing though.

I don't live anywhere near an airport and there are hundreds of planes over my house on a daily basis (commercial, military). You do realize that there are a crazy number of aircraft in the air at any given time? This could be anywhere.

Yes, it was called sarcasm. I am in the aircraft industry and I know how many planes are flying.

Why would he sue the pilot? Everyone knows that's chump change. That's why it'll be a lawsuit against McDonnell Douglas for making the F/A-18, the United States Armed Forces for having a contract with McDonnell Douglas to produce the F/A-18, all branches of Government who had a hand in supporting production of the F/A-18, and all branches of the Government that didn't support the production but didn't do enough to stop it, and Walmart, because they're a faceless corporation that people like to pile on and they seem to have plenty of money.

I'm sorry but unless there is some reason that plane should not have been in the sky, like it needed some part replaced and they knew it. Or it had not been inspected. Then there really is not a case. That is as long as it was maintained properly. Its really no ones fault.

Sad as all hell, but no ones fault.

Its a machine, machines break. It might have been a bird strike or some thing are you going to sue the bird for flying near a airport?

Machines break because they were:
not maintained improperly.
designed improperly.
manufactured incorrectly.

Accidents like this happen because:
machines break
pilot error.

in each an every one of these cases - there is fault to be applied.
