I brought this up with my wife last night. We discussed if we could pay our bills with both of us taking a 25% decress. The concencious was yes, but with major changes, we both have car payment and I have a bike payment....probly all threee would have to be sold and we'd have to buy a couple of older cheaper cars. Bike would be gone.

Also no extra curricular spending, no more going out to dinner, no more fun spending. Just food and bills. But we could probly get by.

25% decrease in pay?.... No way, no how. I'd have to stop all contribution to my 401K(which I put 12% in each pay day), I'd have to sell my bike, I only have 1 car payment, and would have to sell it and get an older unreliable car, My kids would have to quit their sporting activities, my pets would have to be given away.... Lot's of other this would have to be given up as well. I make a damn nice living but if I had to take a 25% pay cut, I'd have to get a second job... No question. $20K-$25K a year pay cut would be very painful.

Truth. Could I do it? Yes. Would I be willing to do it? Absolutely not. I'd find a new job... even if that meant uprooting my life and moving elsewhere. I've worked too hard to make the money I earn right now... Meanwhile, there are 2092 jobs currently listed in my town on Monster... I'm bound to be qualified for some of them and I'm sure there are some out there that would afford me less of a pay cut than 25%.

Fuck, move to MO. Its probably 25% cheaper to live here. Gas just got down to 2.30 over the weekend. I take it back. I saw 2.18 today.

could I do it? yes... do I want to? of course not... I get paid to little for what I do imo anyways...

but yes i could handle the cut... but I already have my housing, Food, and medical paid... if you deducted 25% from those as well... fuck no... I'd get out... as there would be no point to stay in.

My grandfather worked in a steel mill, they did this exact same thing. In my opinion I think it is a good thing for the company to do. For the people who do not want to take the pay cut, they can look for a new job (while still getting a paycheck), and for the people who do not mind taking a pay cut they can keep their job.

Do I want to take a 25% pay cut? Nope, but I would rather take a 25% pay cut then get laid off.

Yeah, that'd be great. But not likely.

I would not want to take a 25% pay cut. I make about 35k/yr. (laughable, huh?) and it would be difficult to make any less. Kinda funny how those who make 100k a year feel like it would be difficult to take a 25% pay cut, yet here I am with 65% less than that. It's all a matter of perspective. I get by, but I don't have the materialistic things I would really enjoy. I don't NEED those things, but I'd really enjoy them. It's all about what you've grown accustomed to having and the feeling that you can't do without some of those things. I'm living proof that it's not much fun, but you can get by with less if absolutely necessary.
