Pretty much - I always figure they have a word goal and that crap is in there to fill space. It's no mystery what pretty much every police agency in America carries.

Seems like these days they prefer to hire creative writers, rather than journalists. I once wrote a piece that was 250 words, with what I thought was virtually no extraneous wording. Editor cut it to 200, without breaking a sweat.

For example...

The man who wrote "We hold these truths to be self evident...that all men are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights...." owned slaves.

He also expressed his interest in killing everyone west of the Mississippi river and stealing their land not as a genocide....but as a "Manifest Destiny."
