Well... just a lil update on this

Insurance company came out this past Thursday and looked at the bike, they said it would prob be a few days and I'd be getting a call from the claims office. So hopefully I hear something from them this week, and can get a check and really get going with the rebuild.

I finally got the flywheel off today... I was hoping for the best, but was sadly disappointed. Crankshaft is indeed bent pretty good at the end... enough that I not only can easily see it's bent just by looking at it, but it's also still keeping the engine from turning. I've got a buddy who's boss does machine work, and said he should be able to straighten out the crank without any probs, so hopefully he's right! If not, then I guess another crankshaft is the next plan. Also gonna see just how bad the damage is when I split the cases open. If the inside of the case is pretty tore up, I may end up looking for a good used engine. We'll see though....

Since the crank is tweaked, don't forget about the bearings inside the motor that took a hit also. You may need to replace them as well.

Sounds like you would be better off looking for a used motor, but I totally understand the hard-headedness of *Dammit, I'm going to make this work!* LOL

Good luck with it!

If it were me, I'd probably say hell with it and let them total the bike out, then go get another one. But, when it's your baby, you sometimes think differently.

I was thinking the same thing, you have no clue what else could have shifted inside the engine, even something as simple as a crank bolt could have been stretched just to the breaking point. I'm not sure of the figures, but I think it would probably be cheaper to get a good used engine. Or just buy a new bike.

Damn Jared. Glad to hear you are OK.
Make sure you go through that bike with a fine tooth comb. Like someone else said, hate to see you dump a bunch a money into it when more might be wrong.

Good News: You're not hurt

Bad News: Bike looks like absolute shit.

They will total it out for sure...

Yeh I'm with the others that said replace the engine. Something very similar happened to a buddy of mine, where the stator took a direct hit and he fixed the bike. After spending a shitload of his own money to fix it the motor he was able to make it out of his neighborhood before the motor blew itself to pieces. Turns out the crank seperated 2 inches into the motor. He said after a few miles the bike started to get a heavy vibration under load so he started to take it easy and head home and boom. Locked up the rear wheel and took him for a ride.

You need to buy your suit back from my brother cuz he stole your good luck

Sorry about you wreck. Glad you weren't injured. You can find F4i's all day long for cheap. My buddy just sold his for $3500. With the amount of miles you put on, the RR might be a bit of a torture rack.
