dunno, ask them.
actually they are the ones w/ the proper tools vs PD and they are the one's who tell people they do it (get in people to locked houses, emergency or not) IMO, the PD is busier then the FD. i think this runs on course w/ homeslices assumption of I-net gun toting vigilantes. i seriouosly doubt as FD you'd pull up to a nice house w/ peeps outside saying we're locked out, and you'd kick the door in. esp. w/ owners consent, cuz owner coulda done the same thing and not called.

I never leave my house without some non-electric means to get back in (i.e. a key, not a garage door opener that doesn't work in a power outage).
If I was in a hurry, I'd break in. If I had time to waste, I'd call a locksmith. The damage I'd have to do to break in would far exceed the price of a locksmith. Calling emergency services for something that trivial never even crossed my mind. My mom called the FD to come change the batteries in her smoke detectors, because she was too damn lazy to do it herself and I wasn't willing to make the 50 mile round-trip to her house to do it for her. That was just stupid. |

Until this thread, if you asked me to make a list of everyone I would call in I was locked out it wouldn't have the Fire Department on it. I know they can get in a place but I can beat down a door myself. The only way I would call the FD is if I was locked out an some how a fire started. Even then I would break in to get my kids out before the fire department even had the truck started. James

I keep my keys on me at all times, unless I'm naked, in which case I don't go outside much. I also make sure anyplace I live has at least one door that locks from the outside with a deadbolt, so I can't be locked out. My neighbor has a key to my house as well, so in extreme circumstances he could let me in. Or I'd break in, but I wouldn't waste emergency services' time to get me into my house because I was a dumbass. Since there's no "I'm not enough of a fucktard to lock myself out" option, I'm boycotting this vote.

TMALL:
no actually he said "honestly if I was a fireman and got called for this I would have just kicked your door in." and i compared it to homeslices statement about i-net bravado. as first responders do they wanna goto somebodys house and get em in (w/o breaking or hacking the door down), NO. will they do it, yes it may not be a glamorous part of the job, but it's part of the job.

Because when people are unconscious from smoke inhalation, they can't unlock the door.
