But here goes for me. I'm a Staff Sergeant (E-5), active duty Air Force, been in for about 5 and a half. What do I do? F-16 Avionics. I have literally been upside down to my waist in this airplane before. Seriously, legs hanging out the top the jet. Some days I enjoy it, some days I absolutely hate it.

Count down to next deployment: 1.5 weeks.

6-point or 8-point, either way I never wore it. The boonie was all I needed to watch Iraqis make concrete back in 06. And to those that are not in the military, I'm not slamming Iraqis, I literally had to watch them make concrete for 6 months straight.

But yeah, quick edit b/c you answered Archren's question while I was typing. Oh yeah, I was hoping to run into you (ebbs) before you left Korea, but oh well, some other time.

Almost 6 years in the navy as a stoker. Just about finished the first year of my two year technician program.

I don't even to pretend to know your rank structure. But, I've been promoted twice. ( we REALLY do not give our rank away) It usually takes 8-10 years to make petty officer.

Things I've accomplished that I'm proud of, Fighting forest fires in Kelowna BC in 03, Raising $13,000 for the children's wish foundation by running a relay across NS, Being infamous at our NBCD school (they now give a safety lecture on why you should not use "dummy" atropine injectors on anybody's forehead. No matter how much they dare you...".

I've sailed alot. I averaged about 7 months a year for my first 4 years. I've sailed all over Europe with Standing Nato Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1). Summer of 06 we sailed up the st lawrence river, through the great lakes to Thunder Bay setting a record for the furthest north in the lakes for a warship.

We patrolled the Med for a bit in 05. Got buzzed by jets (betcha didn't hear about that one?) and our boarding party searched boats for drugs.

It's back to my boat in Jan 2010. Which is the year of the Canadian Navy's 100th anniversary(huge celebrations planned for the summer in Hfx harbour). Where I get to complete a year long training package to become a machinery watchkeeper/operator/technician.

Finally after all that training... I become ready for promotion to our first earned rank. And I'm lucky enough to be one of the top 20 or so that year, I'll get promoted! Almost seems worth it...

You guys and the Brits. You can barely even compare the enlisted ranks. The Brits that were stationed with us in Kuwait during WaitEX had corporals who were all easily 10 years senior to our sergeants and staff sergeants.

Though I bet our reserves could give you a run for your money. Seems like half the guys I see that are my rank in the reserves are grayed and/or balding.

Things like this didn't present a problem for an officer. Officers had a tried and
tested way of solving problems like this. It was called a sergeant.

I'm not a soldier any more, but when I was a soldier, I paid income taxes. Therefore, I paid for my own goddamn wages. It ain't no free ride.

BTW, motherfuckin' airborne/air assault, 8 eight years. Rambo ain't got shit on me.

They gave us the 8-point for DCU's, now with the ABU's it's back to a real fucking hate, that thing sucks. Or if you're lucky you'll get the ABU floppy, I like the boonie hats a lot better.
