We're in the same boat. We are apparently an oddity when it comes to real estate, so no one actually builds houses in this area to suit us.

Gotta go full custom, gonna be pricey, but I'll live there forever... probably.

Building a house is a painful experience, I will skip that shit. Plus, now that I am moving way before I wanted to, I won't take that risk in building a custom til I retire and won't be moving around anymore.

It is a PITA but I will have a kickass garage when I get done. That's what I care about

See I would just rather find a lot with a decent house and build a standalone massive garage. LOL

Everyone I know that built custom said that it was worth it. I think the process of picking out a already made house is painful especially when what you want doesn't exist.

It exists, trust me.

I'm about as picky as you can get and I have found everything that I could want in a home more than once.

I don't own those houses though. That would take a few extra zeros in the net worth category.

Well part of what I want is a price tag I can afford. So no...they don't exist.

I told my mother in law while we were cleaning the new place before the move in I will be my builders worst nightmare.

Between my OCD and and anal retentiveness, if I'm paying money for it, it better damn well be perfect and exactly what I told them I wanted. We're already compiling the dream list so when we retire and build they wont have to worry about whether or not I know what I want. I was standing in my new living room last night and noticed the shelves and cabinet doors are off kilter, by 1/4 of an inch. Then I had to break out the tape measure just to make sure I wasnt hallucinating. Oh yeaaaah, my builder will LOVE me.
