I know, right? It's embarrassing to watch him drive it....he LOOKS like a little old lady behind the wheel....he's a little short shit to begin with....but he looks scared of the car....He'd be better suited driving his wife's Lexus SUV.

That's because the workers in Bowling Green aren't your typical union workers and the cars are actually made well. IIRC GM selects good workers who aren't union friendly (though they are Union becuase they don't like replacing tires every week) and actually believe in doing good quality work. Mainly becuase they do plant tours and you can't have your typical UAW plant employee in the eye of the public becuase the tour would suck. You would be staring in at them and them staring back at you.

I even have a little Dodge Neon SRT-4 in the garage to play with the 'fast and furious' crowd when needed. The wife actually has fun driving the little car and just like the Vette...it's paid for so it's hard to let it go. Quote:
When I bought mine I was on crutches...recovering from a compound fracture and shattered heel and ankle from a motorcycle accident and even the crutches fit in there...behind the seats. The look on people's faces was kinda funny to see me hobble in and out of the car but it worked just fine. Buying a Z06 "not to hot rod around in" sounds pretty lame to me...maybe he tracks the car ? If not...poor Z06. I know people and have friends that buy and drive these cars like they were intended for but yep unfortunately there are a lot of Vette owners that have garage queens that they just want to wash and wax and drive slowly on a clear day and be seen in their Corvette...to each their own but that's just not me. Oh and as I mentioned...this is my 4th Vette but 'back in the day' I've owned 4 Honda CRX's too...great little autocross cars that due to it's shape could make a stereo thump too. |

In regards to the buying a car and not using it as intended...there's a guy in town who special ordered a Shelby Mustang...the real deal mind you.
Why was it a special order you ask...? Because it's an effing AUTOMATIC!!!!! He had to special order to GET an AUTOMATIC. And he doesnt even KNOW what he's got. He had money to blow, and thought it looked cool. Non driving, mechanically retarded dude who just wants it because it LOOKS cool. I get pissed everytime I see that car driving around town. Usually because I'm PASSING it in my jeep or the hubby's truck, as it's going at or under the speed limit and I am just so angry that it's such a WASTE! ARGHHHHHHH. I've known a few of the vette guys who only took theirs to shows. As in, garaged, trailered with a cover everywhere and NEVER saw the road. I'll just never understand that. Why spend the money on a vehicle you dont plan on using to its capabilities as best you can? If you've got the money to buy it in the first place just to let it sit around, arent chances good you can replace it when you rag it out??

Agree again.
I work for a bunch of high end execs at a major corporation that make big money. Several of them buy new cars every year or two and usually buy either Porsche, Mercedes, or BMW's. They can afford better but are mostly conservative and stick with these type cars. Not my current boss but my last two...which covers around 20 years or so would roll in with brand new Porsche 911 (993,996,997) Turbo's and only live about 4 miles from the office and NEVER really drive the cars. They also owned Mercedes AMG cars and BMW M cars and again...NEVER really drove the cars !! Now the good part They were forever tossing me the keys and asking me to go get their car cleaned up or gassed up (I didn't actually wash the car or pump the gas mind you ) and to take the car for a spin and blow it out a bit. I've had some great fun...within reason...in some of those fine 500 hp Europeon vehicles. Sometimes when they were trying to decide which vehicle to buy...the dealership would deliver cars for them and they would ask me to drive them and to give them my opinion. There's also been a Superformance Cobra replica...a couple of Aston Martin's...a couple of Porsche GT3's and a Ferrari thown in from time to time. Rough job but somebody had to do it...ahhh...the good old days. Yep I've been paid to be a golpher but I consider it being a Golden Gopher. I can't afford what they can...so I'm stuck with low end cheap interior Z06's and stuff. Last edited by z06boy; 10-01-2010 at 11:10 AM.. |

example: Some people see a Mercedes (or enter ANY luxury/sport car..or hell a house/boat..the list is long) as a status symbol...and do everything in their power to get credit approval for one. Despite living in a trailer park, working at Denny’s, when outside of home and work...and strolling down the street, observers don't have a clue this Mercedes driver can't rub 2 nickels together, but at THAT MOMENT in time, THEY are a superstar...or at least they THINK they are. Till it's time for the service on the car, and they freak at a $900 oil change (of course not just oil....other things as well, but roll with me here) so they either don't DO the service, or they offload the car, let it go back...whatever. The same type example could be used for a supercar. Scrape and save every penny for that Audi A8....but God forbid it get a single scratch, because the budget is already stretched beyond thin to AFFORD that car, much less repair anything that may happen when actually railing it...or hell even buying TIRES for it. Personally I'd rather buy a cheap bike/car and rail the piss out of it regularly, buying tires when I need to, gear as needed, and having leftover for trackdays and FUN, then sink every dime into a new S1000RR and not have enough at the end of the month to take it anywhere other than sonic
