Duc Hunting
Well I began Duc hunting today. I have contacted 3 of the 4 possibilities I have found online. Three 900 SuperSports and one 900 Monster. I'm almost leaning toward a Monster over a faired bike, but IDK.. I'm trying to set up some appointments to see the ones locally.

To this day, the Monster is in my top 3 for most fun bikes ridden of all time.
If you ride one, you *will* bring it home.

We went and looked at one an hour away. A 99' 900SS. High miles but I figured WTF. It had been repainted black, and looked pretty good. It started OK, and he asked me if I wanted to ride it. So, you know what I did. I haven't ridden a bike in tennis shoes in too long to remember, but here I go. Anyway the thing starts and sounds OK. It has hi mount Arrow carbon cans on it and rumps pretty good. So I roll out and the shifter is hard as hell to engage and getting the bike moving is more trouble than I remember (I've had two of these things in the past). Nothing is working the way it is supposed too and I'm thinking WTF! It took me about half a block to figure out the shifter is flipped for race pattern. Adjusted totally wrong. The rear brake pedal is bent in and hard to find.
Now that I think about it I think the brake pedal and shifter levers had been swapped to the opposite sides and it ain't working right. IF it had not taken enough force the break my foot to shift it I might have been able the assess the rest of the bike, but the pain sent me back to the garage. By then it was warm and I got the answer to a question I had asked the owner earlier about an ECU or chip flash for the pipes and filter. He didn't know, but said it ran fine. After it was warm, 2500 - 3500RPM was messy and not fine. Oh and the upper faring is lower on the left than the right... Before I left he dropped the price $730.00 but it still wouldn't put me on it. On the way home I told Nancy that it was a shame the thing wasn't set up right because that poor guy had been riding it that way and didn't know the difference. He thought it was supposed to be that way! ""sad"" To fix it, he bought a Harley and put the Duc up for sale. If I was sure the shifting problem was just the levers and linkage I might give it some consideration, but maybe not. Last edited by was92v; 07-12-2009 at 11:04 PM.. |

Thanks for the info, but Denver is wee bit too far away. There are several around here between $3500 and $5K.
