Default Thoughts on this letter

My daughter came home and told me what happened in her class today, needless to say I wasn't exactly happy.

Quote:
Dear Principal J,

My daughter, Q, who is in 5th grade came home yesterday and told my wife and I that her teacher, Mrs. S, used some inappropriate language in class yesterday. This is not the first time that my daughter has mentioned that her teacher has used inappropriate language for a 5th grade class.

My daughter told us that some of the children were acting out in class (dancing and singing), when they should have been studying for a standardized test. Mrs. S then told the class that they “need to pay attention or they will wind up in the retard class”. I was told that some of the other students in the class did report the incident to your office. I am all for the teacher maintaining control of her class but that was not the correct way of doing it.

Q has also told me of other instances where her teacher has used inappropriate language in the past. She also recently threatened all the children in her class who are participating in safety patrol because of the actions of two boys.

Mrs. S is an otherwise good teacher and my wife and I have so far been pleased with the progress our child has been making while under her instruction.

I thank you in advance for looking into the matter.

Sincerely,
me
Thoughts? Too Harsh? Not harsh enough?

The teacher isnt bad, but this is the 3rd time my daughter has brought something like this to my attention. The first time was when the teacher used the word shit and damn multiple times in class on the same day, which I chalked up to a slip of the tongue, but then 2 weeks ago she threatened to pull all the kids who are doing safety patrol out of the program because two of the boys in the class lied about where they were going (said they were going to a safety patrol thing when there was none).

Anyway this retard comment just kinda pissed me off.

Are fucking serious? The teacher said "retard" and you're getting all butt hurt?

This country is getting way too pussified.

When did retard become a bad word? I would like to know to the second.

There's retards, douches, fags, dicks, pricks, buttmunchers, smartasses, and panzy wanzy's. Pick your poison.

I'm with Fred, teachers should never use durogatory words to describe special needs classes. This just teaches kids to treat the special needs kids like they are broken or different and promotes exclusion and leads to kids being innappropriate towards special needs kids. Its not the kids fault they are needing special attention, so why promote the treatments, and yes, I have a special needs student. If my kids were telling me of this, I would report it. Its not right for a teacher, a person shaping and molding children to teach behavior like this. Its one thing to chide someone, but another to make fun or speak bad of kids that have no control over their abilities or inabilities.

This.

Yeah we all call each other retards and worse, but when you are teaching a class full of impressionable students you do need to set a good example, and foul or derogatory language is NOT a good example.

Derf, maybe put in the first paragraph your expectation that the matter be investigated with results given to parents.

Contact the teacher directly... Escalate if necessary... If she's otherwise a good teacher, no sense in potentially getting her in deep shit...
