The questions of how they got there. It was difficult enough to understand when they were thought to be ”just” big heads. Now that it's been discovered they are very much more than that...

Because the inhabitants of the island moved there, flourished, built some big statues and then proceeded to eat each other. Nobody knows how the people got there, how they were able to build the statues or what forced the population to go from an estimated 20k to 2k in a short matter of just a few years

How they got there? By boat or raft........Happened tens of thousands of years ago in Indonesia as well.

It is known they got their by boat, because they are related to the indo pacific peoples, that have been sailing the globe (partial) for hundreds/ thousands of years. the mystery of the island, and the statues, is that they don't know how they transported and erected the multi - ton monolithic statues. Now that they are even bigger than once thought, it must rule out half of the common theories.
Other cool things about the island:
the chopped down all of the trees, and could no longer build boats to escape, or harvest food, essentially stranding themselves there and they turned to cannibalism.
Also, recently found, there is a very extensive and mostly uncharted cave network throughout the island.
