Well, it was an adventure
One hell of a story...
I went to pick up my track bike Saturday, after deciding to actually buy it Friday night. Called up the owner, set a time to pick up, went to the bank for the cash. Left home about noon for a 4.5 hour trip to Scranton with a few nagging questions. As I previously posted, the (now previous) owner did not have a title. So I called up the salvage place (another owner prior) to see if they had any information. Bike had a salvage title when they sold it. Got the next previous owner's info from the previous owner, and emailed him. He has the title (just found it) and all I have to do is get it in my hands. Trip up went just fine. Not a cop in sight over 200+ miles. Cruising at 70-80mph the entire time. Got there, did a test ride, loaded everything in the truck from a perfect divot in the yard. BSed for a while. Headed out about 5:30pm. Down I81, across I80 piece of cake- Or so I thought. Going up, we (brought some help-dad) noticed a small leak. Just happened to stop for a snack and to stretch our legs. Noticed smoke coming out the wheel well. No big deal. Just a oil leak at the valve cover- oil level was fine. Coming back down things got interesting. Heading across I80, looking for I99, I heard a very disturbing sound. The sound of an engine spinning with no load while we were doing 70mph. Press the gas, no go fast! Turns out we also missed the exit for I99 because it said PA/US220/26 instead. Tried to drift to the next exit, but a minor slope prevented that. Pulled off the shoulder about 200 yards from the exit. Hit the hazards, and got to looking. Trans fluid looked a bit low, but nothing major. Luckily there was a truck stop nearby. Dad made the hike, got 5 quarts of ATF. His dislike of sitting on the side of the interstate trumped mine Besides, somebody had to stay with the new toy. Dumped in 3 quarts, tried to move it, got nothing. Crawled under in my favorite sweatshirt (which must be bad luck), and found a leak- ATF spewing out the overflow/vent. Low fluid was NOT the problem! Called up AAA, got a tow off the roadside to the truck stop. No, I was not about to push! Got a room at some motel off the exit, called up a buddy of dad's that has diesel pickup and trailer big enough to haul my beast. Killed lotsa time till he got there in the morning. Thought the beast would maybe get us down the road when it cooperated more. Nope. Loaded up, headed south. Made it home, unloaded the truck, then unloaded the bike. Getting the bike out of my lifted 4X4 was interesting... Had two very long ramps for my feet, and a third stiffer ramp for the bike. Unfortunately, the front tire slid down the ramp so my efforts to go slow didn't pan out. No worries- it's still upright, and on the ground. Finally home and into the garage! Now to wait for spring Spare parts- yeah, the Pitbull stand came with the bike! Sexy! For the street bike!

Don't know yet. Thinking the torque converter died. It'll go into gear now, and do walking pace- basically enough to move across the parking lot and onto the trailer.
I was hoping to go to Summit the 24th, but since I have to fix the truck, that's not likely.

Also- anyone know how to transfer an out of state title into PA? It skipped an owner apparently. I am in contact with the next previous owner that has a NH salvage title from the salvage shop. I don't know if he can just sign and send it to me, or if it has to go to the guy I bought it from, then get a PA title before I can get it.

No idea on the title, just contact your local BMV/DMV and ask them. I would think that you would have to get all the signatures of owners between the guy who has the title and yourself. Erik had a hell of a time getting a new title made for a car he bought years back because somewhere the title was mis-placed. |

My Buell had a MD title when I bought it. Their laws are different than ours. In MD you dont need to sign the title in front of a Notary, so he just signed it and handed it over. In PA, you have to have a Notary witness you sign it. So it depends what state he's in and what the laws are.
