Default That would have sucked

hada long day/late night last night buttoning up the futura to get it ready to take to work today despite the rain (parkings a major issue at the jobsite I am at today so its much easier to ride)

I had to finish wiring the voltage regulator, and reassemble the right side rearset. It fought me every step of the way and I may need to do some modifications when I hook the rear brake back up.

So I had along day yesterday before this between taking a ride and having a st paddys day dinner at my dads house. So suffice to say it was getting late when I got everything done.

Bike took a while to turn over which it always does first time of the season and it finally comes to life. Its smoking up a little but I figured I did make a mess with the oil and there may be some in the airbox. So I let it run for a bit, shut er down and geared up for a test ride to make sure the VR doest crap out or soem other problem.

I pull back in the driveway and still see smoke then see oil on the ground so I pull the plastics off and clean up the mess to look for the source of the leak. Looks like its comming from the oil filter cover so i check if theres a loose bolt. I tighten em up a bit more and it still leaked so I think the gasket crapped out.

So I am kicking myself for not properly torquing the bolts but am happy I did test ride it since theres oil on my tires. Would hav e been a bad ride in between the mist/wet road and an oil soaked tire.

Yeah, my Falco's filter gasket crapped out last summer. Luckily mine was just a slow drip. Put in a new one, and it's all good now.

I did pinch the valve cover gasket after a valve check one time, though, and that dumped oil all over the rear tire. Not a fun ride home at all.

I am surprised this one lasted all this time. Af1 has an aftermarket one for 6 bucks, but will call the local aprilia dealer and see if they have one in stock and have the mrs pick it up on her way home from work.

I want to check the torque specs on it too to see how bad I overtightened it

It's kind of strange seeing people in other states make references to AF1.
I guess they've grown a lot since that little shop off Lamar that Teka mapped my TLR.
