Hey Jeeps and other NC people
Any of you know of a good place to snowboard around here? I haven't been able to go because of health reasons these last couple years but I really want to go this year. Any sugestions? I live in Greenville, which is south of Raleigh.

Cataloochee outside asheville is not the best, but it's close. You can head up further north to Ski Beach and Sugar Mountain for a little bit better time. I am sure you know you aren't going to find boarding in this area like out west or up in Alaska. I learned to ski up in Alaska and going around here just depresses me.

based on this reply, if you want just to get out there for a day, go to something local to save gas. If you plan on making a good vacation out of it definitely look to go to sugar mountain or ski beach. The local places are fun to take beginners and just have a fun time with friends, but if you are wanting to board, go further away.

Got a few in WV also. Flat Top resort. Never been but see lots of boards heading up the Mtn. I haven't personally been on any Mtns. around here since the 90's. Cant really recommend the best Board Mtn.

Me too! I got tired of Michigan Resorts and hung it up a few years ago but it's on my "bucket list" to go snow boarding so... I'll probably book one of their mid week specials. It's about $150 which includes two nights lodging, lift passes for two days, equipment rental, lessons,a gas card (kinda weird) and some other stuff I forget. It's about 5 hours from here but it sounds like fun for a couple days. I'm gonna install some loops for a guy for a grand in about a month so I'll use that money for the trip and live it up a little! |

Wolf Laurel near Mars Hill in Yancy County(I think) is off of I-26 NC exit 3, Cathaloochee Ski Lodge in Maggie Valley exit 27 I-40 then exit 103(Think) off of 23/74 are both pretty good. There are some in the Boone area but that's 2and 1/2 hours from us. From Raleigh it's about 5 hours. Hope this helps you out.
